Keeping your eye on the Big Picture

We are constantly bombarded by sales messages every second of the day. Buy this. Do that. And quite often the next thing that comes around looks like the next big thing. It’s so easy to get distracted off what you were doing and never quite finish it.

The only real method of preventing this is self-discipline. Make it a rule to complete what you started before going on to the next thing. If you are working in a day job, then this is even more vital, since your time is even more precious. I have tons of projects I am working on at any one time, so I’m not just talking out my hat.

I have adwords, web site development. I also do real live sales. It’s a juggling act and sometimes it’s so easy to just flit about and apparently do nothing. The only time I manage to get something done, is when I say to myself – right – that’s it – I’m going to finish that now.

Keeping your eye on the big picture is key. What is your goal? The goal will align everything and all your activities should fall into place around it. It is like the guide to your daily life. When you wander off. Remember the goal you can get yourself on track again.

This is what I do and it helps me. So I hope it helps you too.

Keeping an Eye on Your Vision

It’s a common sight everywhere-baby boomers extending their arms and straining to read menus and newspapers. While this may be a normal part of aging, other more serious eye diseases often occur as we age; many without noticeable symptoms.

Today, nearly one-third of Americans over 40 have a vision problem. And some of these vision problems, like glaucoma or age-related macular degeneration, can cause permanent vision loss if left undetected. What’s more, the number of blind or visually impaired Americans is expected to double by the year 2020 as baby boomers age.

“It’s important for adults to visit an eye doctor if they notice any change in their vision, especially if they are over 40 years of age,” said ophthalmologist Elaine G. Hathaway, M.D. “Some sight-threatening conditions have no early warning signs and can only be detected through an eye exam.”

Undetected vision problems often lead to a loss of independence, preventing Americans from driving, engaging in their favorite hobbies, reading and even performing chores around the house. The good news is that an eye exam can detect many sight-threatening conditions before vision loss occurs.

The Vision Council of America recommends that Americans 40 and older receive regular eye exams to ensure good vision and overall health. Make sure to talk to your eye doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Cloudy or blurry vision

• Colors that seem faded

• Poor night vision

• Double or multiple vision

• Loss of peripheral vision

Keeping An Eye On Vision Health

Doctors say maintaining vision health can be especially important for women. In fact, a new report from the National Women’s Health Resource Center: Women and Healthy Vision shows that women are at higher risk than men of having vision problems-including blindness-as they age. Fortunately there are ways to keep your eyes healthy. Try these tips:

1. Quit smoking. If you smoke, you’re much more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration, or AMD, than nonsmokers. AMD is the most common cause of blindness in those over 65. While there are some ways to slow its progression, there is no cure.

2. Wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when you’re in the sun. These two simple steps can reduce your exposure to eye-damaging UV rays up to 18-fold. If you wear contacts, ask your eye care specialist about contact lenses with UV protection.

3. Watch your weight. Being overweight is a major risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in those under 65. In addition, the Nurses’ Health Study from Harvard Medical School found medically obese women were 36 percent more likely to develop cataracts.

4. Take fish oil supplements daily, or eat fish two or three times a week. There’s some evidence that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and other foods may reduce your risk of AMD. Conversely, limit the amount of vegetable oil in your diet.

5. Eat three or more servings of fruit a day. In one study, women who did so reduced their AMD risk by 36 percent compared to those who ate less than 1.5 servings.

6. Eat your spinach. What Popeye didn’t know was that spinach is a rich source of lutein and zea-xanthin, powerful antioxidants that can reduce the risk of certain eye diseases, like AMD. Other good sources include any kind of leafy green vegetable such as collards and kale, as well as eggs and orange-colored fruits.

7. See your eye care professional for a full vision examination at least once every two years. Go more often if you have diabetes or any other eye-related condition.

8. Get a walk in every day. In one study, glaucoma patients who walked briskly four times per week for 40 minutes lowered the pressure within their eyes enough so they could stop taking their glaucoma medication.

9. Change your eye makeup every three to six months. It becomes contaminated with bacteria and can infect your eye.

10. Don’t fall asleep in your daily wear contact lenses. In fact, don’t ever wear them longer than they’re designed to be worn.

Not only are these functional they are also protective and allow an individual to incorporate his or her style into their activity such as riding a motorcycle, skiing, or snowboarding. The overall style is simply more modern, sleek, and less cumbersome than other styles that have been introduced for these purposes in the past, which is appealing to people in all age ranges. The brand has taken into consideration style, creating a breath of fresh air in the industry.

If you take part in activities such as riding motorcycles or skiing and snowboarding, you know the importance of wearing protective eyewear. These interesting specs can protect against dry eyes as well as serious injuries in the case of an accident. Spy goggles styles make the idea of wearing this protective eyewear more tolerable for many individuals. Take some time to be sure that you not only look good in this type of eyewear but that you also have a good fit.

Keep Your Eye On The Prize

“You can’t move so fast that you try to change the mores faster than people can accept it. That doesn’t mean you do nothing, but it means that you do the things that need to be done according to priority.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Many home-based businesses begin with a very specific goal in mind. The destination is firmly fixed in the minds of the entrepreneur. However that goal is rarely realized in an ‘overnight success’ fashion.

When an entrepreneur discovers this they can either give up or they might diversify to find a means of paying the bills. Most chose the latter option.

The difficulty comes when the original goal is sacrificed for the expediency of cash flow. It is normal for home-based businesses to diversify their offerings in order to derive an ongoing income. By shifting the focus away from the original vision the business will likely see a diminished capacity for ‘vision’ growth. The reason this is true is you will be pulled in so many different directions it will become almost impossibly to find the time to concentrate on fulfilling the original vision.

“Money isn’t the most important thing in life, but it’s reasonably close to oxygen on the ‘gotta have it’ scale.” – Zig Ziglar

Even in early home-based business startups it is important to dedicate a portion of every day to the development of your original dream. Yes, it is likely you will need to accept other opportunities that will help you weather the storms of the initial startup phase of your business venture.

Too often the dream is sacrificed on the altar of practicality. Practicality becomes the means of a making a living. Making a living is what you did before you started your home-based business.

“I learned that we can do anything, but we can’t do everything.. at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything.” – Dan Millman

In the Rankin/Bass Christmas feature “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” we see the Winter Warlock learn that he could have a different future by placing one foot in front of the other. It is the same step-by-step action that results in the realization of a home-based business dream. Keep walking – change is coming.

“Cut your major goals into bite-sized pieces. Each small priority or requirement on the way to ultimate goal become a mini goal in itself.” Denis Waitley

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

Our preoccupation with sports comes from all the good they can give to us. It allows us to marvel at the feats the human body can achieve with training, practice and strategy. Sports encourages us to pin our hopes on individuals or corporate entities, known as teams, and experience the joy of mob mentality while cheering them on to victory. That allows us escape from our work and school in daily life and gives us a chance to focus on something other than the bills on the desk or the work waiting to be done. However, when controversy enters the realm of sports it has the ability to dampen all of those positive aspects and make us want to spend our time escaping through something else. Nowhere has that become more evident than in the NBA’s controversy with hip-hop music.

What’s music got to do with it?

The first question one must ask in this controversy is why is a professional sport having a problem with music at all? Other than playing songs before and during games, what does music have to do with basketball? Actually, music as a lot to do with it. Rappers are not only basketball fans but have moved into the realm of corporate sponsors and team owners. Their videos, merchandise and relationships with high-profile players have brought the world above the rim onto the major stage. Critics charge the NBA got into this controversy by exploiting hip-hop to draw crowds into the arena to be a part of this environment. Other say that because hip-hop has its roots in the African-American community which currently dominates professional basketball, it was a natural link. Either way, the baggage that comes with hip-hop music: its roots from being a street form of expression and its current concerns about lyrics involving misogyny, violence and social unrest create an unlikely connection to an American iconic sport.

Gang connections

Media releases from the NBA All-Star game in Las Vegas were filled with as many police reports as on-court statistics. Reports of violence, arrests, shooting, and unlawful behavior made headlines while reports from the game of three point shots, rebounds and passes, remained in the background. Hip Hop music and its gangland connection seem to have taken the brunt of the blame for this turn in the NBA’s image. Many columnists and critics point out that other sports have problems with violence and violent actions on behalf of their players. Embracing this possible connection, many well-known street gangs have taken to wearing NBA jerseys of their favorite players and bringing basketball into their world as well. While this may seem to be innocent fan’s obsession with their team, the connection between street gangs and NBA basketball is not mutually beneficial.

Turn from the dark side

Anyone of any race can listen to and enjoy hip-hop music. The challenge for the NBA is to separate music from the genre that is violent, dark and unseemly from being a part of their sport and merchandising. They have taken such steps as creating a new dress code and defining behavior both on and off the court for players when representing the NBA. They are hoping to stem the tide of gang-related activity, both on and off the court.

We must always be careful when looking at any trend in music to make sure that our understandings of it are based on statistics and experience and not racial stereotypes and oppressive majority behavior. However, as the scene in basketball shifts from athletic to antisocial, recognition of this controversy and resolving it is imperative for the NBA.

Save Money When You Travel

Monitoring the currency exchange rate is very important if you’re planning to go on a vacation and would like to stay within your set budget and save money. Let us understand what exactly currency exchange rate means. In general, depending on the US dollar, most of the other currencies are calculated in value and are either more or less than the value of the US dollar. For example, a Canadian dollar would be worth around 85 percent of the US dollar. Similarly, the British Pound is worth two US dollars. However, owing to the fluctuating market conditions, one day the British Pound could be worth two dollars while on the next, it could be worth more than two dollars.

There are two types of currencies – free floating and pegged. A currency that is determined by the government of the country in relation to the another currency is called a pegged currency. Inthe 1980’s, the Hong Kong dollar was fixed with respect to the US dollar. On the other hand, a free-floating currency is permitted to change in value with respect to all other currencies in the foreign exchange market. When referring to currency, people often discuss issues like the real exchange rate and the nominal exchange rate. The actual exchange rate is the rate for which products of a country can be traded for the products and services of another country. The nominal exchange rate on the other hand, is the value at which the currency of a certain country can be traded with that of another.

Practically speaking, currency exchange rates generally change from one country to another and make travel and tourism easier and more attractive. So, if you’re planning on going on a vacation and there are several countries that you plan to visit, it is advisable to keep an eye on the current exchange rates. This could help you save money. For example, New York City is always full of tourists from France, Japan, the UK and Germany at different times of the year. This is only because at certain times the exchange rates favor the Europeans or the Japanese, making it cheaper for them to visit America than at other times. In recent years, the currency exchange rate is seen to have worked in favor of all the European nations.

Before the Euro came into existence, Austrian currency was the Schilling, Germany the Deutsche Mark, Italian Lira, Switzerland had the Swiss Franc and France the Franc. In the early 80’s the currency exchange rate was two and a half Schillings for a dollar while five French Francs made one US dollar. On the other hand, the Deutsche Mark fluctuated anywhere from 1.7 Marks to 2.5 Marks to the dollar. So, when the US dollar was at 2.5 Marks, the Americans would trade in their dollars for German Marks to stay ahead.

Watching out for the fall or rise in exchange rates is always beneficial for tourists who would like to travel and at the same time save money. Even if you are only thinking of hopping across the border to visit family or are planning on flying to Mexico or Canada, knowing and understanding the nominal exchange value of another country is very important. So, remember to plan your vacation at a time when the fluctuation in exchange rates is most likely to help you.

Watch The Ball

This phrase is often repeated in nearly every sport – keep your eye on the ball. It applies to golf too! If you do not watch the ball, then the chance that you will hit it is very slim!

Keep your eyes focused on one part of the ball. Don’t watch your club as you swing.

Keep your focus on the ball and let everything else fade into the background.

Try to look down on the ball, rather than watching it at the end of the golf club. Raising your shoulders is not going to help you see the ball more clearly. If you will look down on the ball, you will get results that are more successful and you will not have a tendency to look up before the end of your swing.

Unfortunately, it is completely natural to look away when you begin to pull the club back. Ignore the natural feeling and keep your eyes on the ball.

When you are looking down at the ball, you should notice that the only way you can keep the club head in the correct line of flight is to keep your hands moving parallel to the flight line. Keep your hands in line with the club head when making contact with the ball.

It is very important to learn to watch the ball no matter what kind of shot you need to make. It does not matter if the ball is in the long grass, the sand trap, on a slope, or anywhere else, the main thing is to see the ball completely so that you can hit it solidly and successfully.

There are not many golfers who stand still and keep their attention on the ball. Many times, people will look at where they want the ball to go and then look at the ball. Most golfers would be surprised to learn that they do not stand still and watch the ball. The instant that you take your eye off the ball, you begin having problems.

Most golf mistakes are a result of a loss of concentration. It you keep your focus on the ball, you will be able to hit the ball well.

To help your golf game, remind yourself to keep your eye on the ball for the entire swing. You will find your golf game improving so much that your friends may be asking you for advice!

Jealousy

Dear Jane,

How can I let go of resentment towards my mother for being thin and lose weight myself?

I wanted to answer this question because, even if weight is not everyone’s issue, resentment and jealousy torture most of us at one time or another.

Jealousy is an indicator that we believe someone else has something that we cannot attain. We may experience jealousy about someone’s looks, their financial status, their popularity/success, or their personal life. But it all comes down to the belief that we can’t have what they have.

Why would we believe this unless we didn’t think we were equally deserving? So jealousy helps us recognize that we are feeling unworthy in some way. And unworthiness is the bottom line issue for almost all of us. The good news is that it’s curable.

To heal it, we have to change the question from, “How do I get what so-and-so has?” to “How do I get that I am worthy?” What I talk about in my book, Enough Is Enough!, is that we won’t necessarily wake up one morning with a belief in our own worthiness. Like any other belief, it takes repetition and practice to “get it.”

So how do you let go of resentment towards your mother for being thin and lose weight yourself? How do you get that you are worthy of having the body you desire?

Before eating or before opportunities to exercise, you ask what I believe is the most healing question you can pose:

“If I knew my worthiness in this moment, what would I do?”

Whether we want to lose weight or experience more love, success, or happiness, I recommend asking yourself this question at least ten times a day every day. You will find that as your sense of self-worth grows, you will suffer less from jealousy and resentment.

Is LASIK Laser Eye Surgery Painful

LASIK is by far the most prevalent and safest refractive surgery procedure. It has been employed to treat a host of visual anomalies. Since it’s a surgery, people often harbor a false belief that LASIK is a painful procedure. In fact, LASIK is a relatively painless technique, and what the patient experiences during and after the surgery can be categorized as mild discomfort rather than pain.

LASIK is performed with the patient awake and mobile, and this certainly corroborates that the operation is relatively painless. The surgeon typically administers a mild sedative (for instance Valium) and anesthetic eye drops. LASIK involves creation of a flap of corneal tissue. This hinged flap may be created with a microkeratome (a surgical blade) or a femtosecond laser. During this initial step of flap formation, the patient may experience a little bit of pressure on the eye.

In the following step, the flap is folded back to reveal the middle section of the cornea, in order to make way for precise ablation by the excimer laser. Then the flap is repositioned to allow natural healing. Upon completion of the surgery, the patient may experience discomfort, scratchiness and irritation, akin to the sensation of wearing an uncomfortable contact lens. Such irritable sensation can be soothed with the aid of eye drops, and it normally wears off within a few hours after surgery.

Since the laser ablation is performed the middle section of the cornea and under the LASIK flap, the cornea does not register the fact that it has been surgically operated. As the wound response is subdued, the patient experiences speedy visual recovery and almost no pain.

However, as with any surgery, LASIK has associated complications that may force the patient to bear greater discomfort after surgery. A few of such nagging complications include dry eyes, visual acuity fluctuation, halos or starbursts around light sources at night, double vision, light sensitivity, and several flap related problems.

All in all, LASIK is a safe and efficacious procedure, which is virtually painless. Though the patient may experience mild discomfort due to potential complications, the complication rate itself is quite meager. If presented with the question of whether LASIK hurts or not, I would certainly say that it’s a painless procedure.

Finding a LASIK surgeon that you are confident about will be able to give you more information about laser eye surgery.

Is Lasik Eye Surgery For You

For those of you that don’t know Lasik stands for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. In Lasik the surgeon cuts a small flap in the cornea and uses a laser to reshape the inner area of the cornea. Problems with the cornea can be related to many vision troubles such as; Hyperopia or farsightedness and Myopia or nearsightedness). Also problems like Astigmatism can also be caused. The good news is that eye surgery and lasik in particular resolve many of these eye defects.

The sheer number of different of surgical procedures for correcting vison problems can leave you uncertain of the best one for you. However, whatever may be your procedure of choice, attaining excellent results is largely dependent on the expertise of your eye surgeon. lasik is by far the most preferred corrective eye surgery, and hence it is imperative that you choose an eye surgeon with a great deal of experience.

If you are thinking of going in for lasik eye surgery then this is what you can expect. Before getting lasik you will be examined by a qualified eye doctor or ophthalmologist. During this examination standard eye tests and computer images of the cornea will be taken to build up a picture of the eye and ascertain what corrections need should made. In addition your overall health is also considered when deciding if you will be a good lasik patient. Any conditions, such as dry eye syndrome, may affect your ability to get this type of eye surgery, but in these cases other treatment may be available.

You will be able to go home on the same day as you eye surgery and should have recovered within just a few days. Minor irritations may take up to a month to disappear. The vast majority of people who undertake this surgery will be able to see much more clearly straight after surgery and this improves still further over the next few days.

Some people may experience some side effects like light sensitivity or night time vision problems. In even more rare cases other difficulties like infections can also occur, but most often, if you follow your doctors orders these things can be avoided or cured quickly with eye drops of medication. Other side effects are more long term. These can occur for 6 months or longer. These are: dry eyes, blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, light sensitivity, glares, and vision fluctuations. If you cannot handle any of this, then this eye surgery is not for you. Attaining excellent results is largely dependent on the expertise of your eye surgeon. Lasik is by far the most preferred corrective eye surgery for many, and so it is imperative that you choose an eye surgeon with a great deal of experience and who is using the best medical equipment available.

This type eye surgery has been big news over resent years as the changes to peoples vision and quality of life can be astounding. People who could not see without glasses are getting almost 20./20 vision and word of mouth about these ‘miracles’ spreads fast.. With many people flocking to have the procedure done it has become one of the most popular eye surgeries. However, before committing to the surgery you should look into what lasik is and what it can do for vision in general and your sight in particular.

Before committing yourself ask to speak to people who have had the operation with the organisation you are thinking of using yourself. Ask about the good and bad points of both the operation and the company itself.

As lasik is a fairly new medical procedure the long term risks are not known and it is not possible currently to cure the need for reading glasses as this is problem is more connected with the weakening of the eye muscles over time rather then the corner. As a potential candidate for lasik you must discuss all your concerns and expectations with your surgeon before the procedure is carried out to ensure you completely understand the process and outcome possibilities for you as an individual.

Finally, many people can’t even think about anyone touching their eyes, never mind someone pointing a laser into them. If you are reading this article and are feeling a bit squeamish then perhaps lasik is not for you!

Is Lasik Eye Surgery For You

Lasik eye surgery can be used to correct myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. Presbyopia, which causes those of us in our late 40’s to need reading glasses is actually a loss of flexibility of the eye lens and cannot be treated with lasik corrective eye surgery.

During lasik surgery the ophthalmologist actually reshapes the cornea with the use of a laser. How much reshaping you have done to your cornea depends entirely on your particular sight problem. The FDA first approved the excimer laser for eye correction in October of 1995. Lasik was approved in 1998.

The first thing you need to do before you see the doctor is homework. Read online about lasik, write down questions for your ophthalmologist. Talk to friends and family who have had the procedure. Ask them their experiences. As with any medical procedure there are real risks involved with lasik and you must weight the risks and benefits of the procedure based on your personal desires.

Some patients seeking lasik eye correction surgery come away with a worsening of their vision. Some come away fighting constant eye dryness. Some have bouts with severe infections. Some suffer from halos and double or triple vision.

Your doctor will evaluate you on an individual basis to see if he thinks you will be helped by lasik eye surgery. Not everyone is a candidate for lasik. Women who are pregnant or nursing are not. People with autoimmune or immunodeficient diseases are not candidates. People who form keloids are not good candidates for lasik. People who suffer from cataracts cannot have lasik. Your ophthalmologist will also most likely want you to have no change in your eye glass prescription for at least a period of one year prior to lasik.

The best way to help yourself obtain the best result from lasik is to arm yourself with knowledge.

Is Laser Eye Surgery Safe

In most cases laser eye surgery is safe. But, like any other surgical procedure there are certain risks that need to be addressed. A large number of patients have been able to stop wearing glasses after surgery and have achieved 20/40 vision, or better, that have been cases where patients have a decreased vision after surgery. There are some things that need to be taken into account before choosing a “safe” laser eye surgery.

Corneal Haze

This is a common side effect of laser eye surgery, but usually fades with time, although not always. It can’t be corrected with contact lenses or glasses, but only a further surgery procedure to treat scarring, such as CustomVue WaveFront.

Decreased 20/20 Vision

Many types of laser eye surgery can leave scarred tissue, resulting in a 20/20 vision lower than the one the patient used to experience before treatment. Over corrected or under corrected vision is also a common side effect of laser eye surgery. In such cases, glasses or contact lenses may still be needed or the patient may be recommended a second surgery for more effectiveness.

Vision Loss

Laser surgery procedures which use a microkeratome blade to cut a flap involve the risk of cutting it off instead of leaving it hinged. If the flap is damaged, the patient may suffer vision loss. Successful procedures that use a blade can still leave small imperfections that can result in blurred vision.

Post Operative Infections

Choosing a skilled and experienced surgeon is certainly helpful to make laser eye surgery safe, but there’s always the risk of post operative infection. This risk is higher in PRK and LASEK than LASIK. In most cases, these infections can be treated with medication and usually don’t turn into long-term problems. However, more sever complications ca result into temporary vision loss or even worse. The healing process is longer for PRK and LASEK than LASIK.

It is important to not have extremely high expectations about laser eye surgery, This treatment may not be suitable for some people. There are some things to consider, such as “Is laser eye surgery safe?”, “are your expectations reasonable?”, and “Is laser eye surgery safe for you?” In order to answer these questions you have to learn more about what to expect from each type of laser eye surgery. You should know the positives and negatives of them all, and talk to your doctor about what is best for you.

Laser eye surgery is not a good choice for everyone. Pregnant women, people who suffer from diabetes, patients who have problems with binocular visions, thin corneas, dry eyes or large pupils may not be good candidates for this type of treatment.

Is Laser Eye Surgery Right For You

Laser surgery was approved in 1995 for vision correction. Since that time, improvements in technology and techniques have made it one of the most common elective surgeries in the US. Several different types of laser eye surgery have evolved over the past few years; each one has its own benefits and drawbacks.

One of the most important considerations when having Lasik eye surgery is finding the right doctor. Make sure that your surgeon has done the procedure many, many times, and will be around to help you after the surgery. You don’t want your follow up care left in the hands of a Lasik technician- you want your surgeon to be there for you.

Lasik surgery is great for you if you have mild nearsightedness. If you are severely near or far sighted, have thin corneas, or very large pupils, you are likely a poor candidate for Lasik. Reported side effects include burning from dry eyes, glare and halos at night. These symptoms are reported in up to 3 per cent of post Lasik surgeries.

Wavefront-Guided Lasik adds an automatic measurement to correct distortions in vision. This is a more customized procedure that reduces glare and halo immediately after surgery. Wavefront-guided Lasik accounts for about half of the eye surgeries done today. It is not suitable for people with thin corneas, or people requiring serious vision correction.

IntraLasik Surgery is much the same as traditional Lasik eye surgery. The corneal flap is cut with a laser, rather than a blade. Surgeons may prefer one method to the other, but the outcomes are similar.

Monovision- the surgeon use Lasik to alter one eye for distance viewing, and the other eye for near, or close vision. This is for people who don’t want to wear reading glasses. This procedure may have to be repeated later in life, as the eyesight deteriorates.

If you have considered laser eye surgery, it’s important to check out all the options. The freedom of living without glasses or contact lenses has to be balanced with the potential risks. Contact a reputable surgeon to help you make the decision that is best for you and your eyes.

Is Eye Sty Harmful

A sty is a pimple or abscess that forms in either the upper or lower eyelid. The medical term for sty is hordeolum(say HOR-dee-oh-lumm) and it is an infection caused by bacteria that normally live peacefully on the eyelid skin surface.

Some of thee germs get trapped along with dead skin cells inside crypts along the eyelid margin. Stys are usually superficial and plainly visible. Occasionally they can reside deeper within the eyelid.

This common infection or inflammation results from blocked glands within the eyelid. When the gland is blocked, the oil produced by the gland occasionally backs up and extrudes through the wall of the gland, forming a lump, which can be red, painful, and nodular. Frequently, bacteria can infect the blocked gland, causing increased inflammation, pain, and redness of the eye and even redness of the surrounding eyelid and cheek tissue.

The lump can point externally (outward) or internally (inward). Frequently, the lump appears with a visible whitish or yellowish spot that looks much like a large pimple.

An external sty starts as a pimple next to an eyelash. It turns into a red, painful swelling that usually lasts several days before it bursts and then heals. Most external stys are short-lived and self-limiting.

An internal sty(on the underside of the lid) also causes a red, painful swelling, but its location prevents the familiar whitehead from appearing on the eyelid. The internal sty may disappear completely once the infection is past, or it may leave a small fluid-filled cyst or nodule that can persist and may have to be opened and drained.

Stys are usually caused by staphylococcal bacteria, which often live right on the skin surface. Truth be told, our bodies are coated with billions of friendly bacteria that coexist with us. When the conditions are just right the bacteria feast on dead cells and other debris, resulting in the tender pimple.

Good hand and facial washing may prevent styes from forming or coming back.

Is Eye Sty Cancerous

At first, a chalazion looks and feels like a stye, swollen eyelid, pain, and irritation. The term chalazion refers to a cystic swelling with chronic inflammation in an eyelid. Sometimes the bump on your eyelid is actually a chalazion, which looks similar to a stye. A chalazion is sometimes confused with a stye which also appears as a lump in the eyelid.

In rare cases, cancerous tumors of the eyelid can appear like a stye or chalazion. Do not wear eye makeup or contact lenses until the stye or chalazion heals. Granulomas are inflammatory growths on the inside or outside of the eyelid, and can occur after a stye, or chalazion.

In some cases of staph blepharitis, a red eye may develop or a sty may form. Inflammation of an eyelash follicle with a lump called a sty or hordeolum is usually caused by staph.

If you get styes frequently, see your eye doctor for an examination. Finally, if you suffer from recurring styes, your eye doctor might prescribe a low-dose antibiotic for long-term use. Consult an eye specialist if the inflammation persists for more than 2 weeks, styes recur, or the stye rubs against the eye and irritates it. Bad styes or recurrent styes may need an antibiotic eye ointment as prescribed by your specialist.

Some good prevention method for eye stys are simple things like not sharing make up. Avoid sharing eye makeup, especially if you are prone to recurring styes. Refrain from wearing eye makeup while the stye is active. Although most styes and chalazia are not contagious, best practice should also include not sharing towels, washcloths, or handkerchief.

Your eye doctor may recommend replacing your contact lenses after the stye has healed to prevent recurrence or spread of the infection. If you do not, the infection may spread to the oil glands of the eyelid and cause a stye. Ask an optometrist a question about eye styes when you are purchasing any new contact lenses.

Introducing Eye Of The North

Guild Wars: Eye of the North is the first expansion to ArenaNet’s Guild Wars online games. Guild Wars is an award winning online multiplayer role playing game, which is unique in having no monthly fees. You just buy the game, install it, register your account, and can then as often as you want.

Featuring a level cap of 20, Guild Wars focuses on skill and strategy rather than grind and leveling up. Victory comes down to your particular character’s build and equipment, and your tactical choices. This focus on skill makes Guild Wars fantastic for more casual gamers who couldn’t justify $15 a month to play a game like World of Warcraft.

There are three Guild Wars campaign: Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. Each can be playing online as a standalone game. Instead of registering a new account, you can add a Campaign’s key to your existing Guild Wars account. This will allow you to move your existing characters around the Guild Wars world, and explore the new content and missions in the new campaign.

Eye of the North marks a change for Guild Wars, in that it requires you to own at least one Guild Wars campaign. The content is also firmly aimed at established players, who have progressed through existing campaigns. Eye of the North advances the story told in the original Prophecies Guild Wars campaign, and is set in unexplored areas of the continent of Tyria.

Unlike the other Guild Wars campaigns, there are no starter areas, and no training missions to introduce you to the game. There are 18 new multi-level dungeons, 150 new skills covering all 10 professions, 40 new armor sets, 10 new Heroes to aid you, as well as new Title Tracks, weapons, and items.

The new multi-level dungeons are a new feature in Guild Wars. Accepting a quest will allow you to explore these new dungeons, with specific enemies and tasks needing to be completed before you can progress to the next level.

Dungeons feature many high level enemies, and provide a wide range of unique item rewards, as well as the chance to boost your standing with new factions. Once a dungeon has been completed, you are able to take the quest again and repeat the dungeon, allowing the player to try new tactics, or to achieve rare unique items they may have missed the first time.

One of the main highlights of Eye of the North is the Hall of Monuments, which allows players to preserve armor sets, pets, Heroes, and Titles earned from playing the Guild Wars campaigns. These accomplishments will be carried forward in to Guild Wars 2, allowing players to build on their achievements and experiences in the original games.

With so much new content, and providing a link between the original Guild Wars campaigns and Guild Wars 2, Eye of the North has a lot to recommend it to existing players. The expansion can be purchased from within the game, instantly unlocking the new content for players.

Guild Wars 2 is expected to be in public beta in the second half of 2008. With over 4 million copies already sold, Guild Wars has established itself as a successful and popular online game.

Innovative Makeup Prevents Eye Irritation

Most women have experienced itchy, watery eyes, often attributing irritation and allergic reactions to their cosmetics. But contrary to that belief, mascaras and eyeliners flaking and running into the eyes – not allergies – cause most eye problems.

With this in mind, cosmetics companies such as Blinc Inc. uncovered new developments in eye makeup technology that have resolved these problems. Unlike most eyeliners and mascaras, Blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara and Kiss Me Eyeliner are acrylic-based, which means they cannot flake, smudge, clump or run. Blinc’s mascara and eyeliner are also free of damaging and irritating ingredients.

“The type of acrylic used in this eyeliner is also perfectly safe even in terms of allergy,” Dr. Frances J. Storrs, a professor emerita of dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University, said in a Prevention magazine article featuring Blinc’s eyeliner.

Some ophthalmologists are even recommending Kiss Me Mascara and Eyeliner to their patients who have sensitive eyes, wear contact lenses or recently had laser eye surgery.

Kiss Me Mascara forms tiny, water-resistant tubes around the lashes that can be removed with a combination of warm water and gentle friction. The similarly formulated Kiss Me Eyeliner creates a water-resistant layer of color on the lid that peels off with the mascara. No makeup removers are needed for these products.

Also important for maintaining healthy eyes is replacing your mascara and eyeliner regularly; the beauty industry recommends replacing eye makeup every 90 days to avoid bacteria build-up.

Similarly, cosmetics – especially eye makeup – should never be shared with others, as this can increase the spread of germs.

Many physicians also recommend that you preserve the health of your eyes through antioxidant- and lutein-rich supplements. One such product is Super Antioxidant with Macular Protection by Clinician’s Choice.

Information On Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty in professional medical language, is a cosmetic procedure during which excess fat and skin along with the muscle is removed from the upper and lower eyelids.

Dropping upper eyelids and puffy bags under your eyes can make you look older than you really are. The effects are due to the aging process and are caused by excess fat and skin around your eyes.

Dropping upper eyelids and puffy bags under your eyes may not only change your appearance and cause some psychological problems but also may interfere with your vision. Puffiness of lower lids cannot be improved with the application of any cream or other skin care products. This problem can only be solved with the help of eyelid surgery.

Eyelid surgery is generally performed on adults, who through the natural aging process have lost the elasticity in the skin around their eyes. An eyelid reduction removes the surplus skin and fat to produce a more alert appearance and reduce morning swelling.

As people get older their bodies change. These changes are associated with many reasons and aging is one of the most important reasons of all. Eyelid surgery is one of the corrective procedures that are able to improve people’s appearance and make them feel better about how they look.

The eyes are the windows to the soul as the old saying goes. If your eyes look great you look great. Our eyes make the first contact whenever we meet with someone. Well-toned clear skins of the eyelids are of crucial importance for overall beauty. Eyelid surgery can usually eradicate the problems, however in some cases additional procedures may be necessary in conjunction with this surgery. Your surgeon will make a thorough assessment of your individual requirements and advise you accordingly.

Incisions are made in natural creases in your both upper and lower eyelids so that they can’t be easily noticeable after recovery from surgery. The tender skin around the eyes is more vulnerable to frequent expression leading to the ‘wrinkles’ that tends to become deeper in this area. If you wish to minimize them, a laser treatment can be employed in this area during your surgical procedure.

If you are going to have a general anesthetic and are a smoker you will be asked to stop smoking before surgery to prevent any unnecessary complications. Some analgesics like aspirin and even some anti-inflammatory drugs should not be taken prior to eyelid surgery as a safety measure.

Industrial Eye Protection

Employers shall ensure that each employee uses appropriate industrial eye or face protection (including side protection) when exposed to eye or face hazards which include flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation. Anyone working in or passing through areas that pose eye hazards should also wear appropriate industrial protective eye wear at such times.

Many styles of eye protection safety glasses are available today. Look for safety glasses that offer full coverage of the entire orbital eye area. If the workplace requires that safety glasses must be worn all day, search for lightweight safety glasses that will not contribute to worker fatigue. Many eye protection safety glasses feature custom fitting attributes, like adjustable nose bridges and temples, which provide added comfort and enhanced fitting. Eyewear compliance is greatly improved when the right combination of style, comfort and fit is achieved.

Most eye protection safety glasses are available with either a hard coating to protect the surfaces of the lens and to help prevent pre-mature scratching, or other coatings that may have anti-fog, anti-scratch, anti-static and anti-UV properties. Safety lenses are available in a variety of tints for specific workplace applications:
Clear – For use in general purpose applications

Yellow (Contrast Amber) – Use when sharpness, acuity and contrast are needed and to block high intensity blue lighting such as UV. Good for working outdoors at dawn and dusk. Good for hazy and overcast days.

Red (Vermillion) – Absorbs green light. Sharpens visual acuity and provides a contrast similar to the contrast amber lens. Some people prefer vermillion to the amber when choosing a lens to sharpen visual acuity. Good for inspections because defects can be seen better – circuit boards, miniature components, assembly items

Green/IR shade – Blocks red/infrared (I.R.) light. Can be used any place where there is heat. Good for metal working, furnace work,

Gray/silver mirror/blue mirror – Reduces glare and bright light. Good for outdoor applications where a task specific lens is not required, indoor/outdoor mirror – Tones everything down and provides excellent vision in both indoor and outdoor lighting. Allows a person to wear the same pair of eye protection safety glasses both indoors and outdoors

Polarized – Designed for outdoor use where reflective glare from water, snow, cement and other hard surfaces exist. In many instances the use of a full-face shield is required the protection of the entire face and eyes. Always wear eye protection safety glasses underneath a face shield.

Improved Eye Vision

Do you the feeling of getting up in the morning and everything is blurry? Not be able to tie your shoo, get dressed, or even find the sink to wash your face. The disappointment when your glasses break, in the most important moment. Always end your trip or some other fun activity. Entering a warm room on a cold day and wait 10 minutes for the fog to come off your glasses. Not to mention the pressure wounds on your nose bridge and at the back of your ears.

One might think that contact lenses are the answer to his problem as I thought years ago. I have checked contact lenses. But they scratches my eyes, switched to soft lenses which kept moving in my eyes and cause me several eye infections. The worst part of wearing contact lenses is the any windy weather or even some dust hearts your eye. In a nut shell I have had to give up on them as well. Not to mention the enormous investment and maintenances you need to afford.

Then I had to get back to my glasses, my self-confidence went down, and I could not go out or enjoy any water related or ball games. I knew that I not will do the laser correction surgery I have a cousin who lost here vision in one eye and badly damaged her other eye. I really want see for the rest of my life so I will have to give that up.

At this point I have started my own investigation to find a cure to my eyes or simply improve eye vision. I have found that my doctors kept me the same or worst as my eye prescription went up and all they did was giving a thicker lens. I have found out that Astigmatism can be cured and that it’s not something I have to live with. I have found out that I need to prepare my eyes for the coming day, consume nutrition, vitamins and minerals and relaxation which is one of the most important factors.

The thing that finally, along with all the relaxation and special food ingredients, helped me was exercising.
I have set my self to a schedule of exercising and relaxation and after three months I have began to see some real improvement in my vision. Today, I have regained 90% of my original vision back, I do not see perfectly but I mange with out any help and I am very happy, I am looking forward to more improvement in the future.

The exercises are very simple. Every one can perform them, and they take very short time too. I perform three types of eye exercise and relax between them. The relaxation is simply place my hands over my closed eyes.

Improve Your Eyesight With Trataka

Eyes are the windows of the soul and you can see what a person is up to by looking into his eyes. Hence, it is important to have clean eyesight. In yoga, trataka is a technique devised by the ancient sages to improve eyesight. It is a shuddhikriya or a purification process to cleanse the eyesight and help in the silencing of the mind in concentration.

Sit with your back straight. Keep your eyes fixed on an object without winking till tears start streaming down your face. The small object can be the flame of an oil lamp, or an image or a picture or the letter ‘AUM”. This object should be placed in the line of sight at a distance of about four to six feet. You can also do this kriya without any object in front of you. Having an object is not necessary. Just stare in front of you at the wall without moving the eyeballs or eyelids. Ensure that you stare at a certain point on the wall.

Before starting this exercise, you can start off by moving the eyes without moving the head, where you roll your eyeballs up and down, sideways and from corner to corner diagonally. Initially, you can make this movement with open eyes and then repeat them with closed eyes. This will give the requisite exercise to the eye muscles. This is then followed by trataka. Trataka makes the eyes clear, improves eyes and silences the mind. Over a period of time, you will experience the silence of the mind. If you want to meditate, start with trataka to silence the mind and then go to the meditation. This way, you will reap the benefits of meditation. Since you are exercising the eye muscles, they become stronger. You can perform this kriya daily without any harmful effects.

How well do you know your own eyes

A quote

The power of a glance has been so much abused in love stories that it has become to be disbelieved in. Few people dare now say that two beings have fallen in love because they have looked at each other. Yet in this way that love begins and in this way only. The rest is only the rest, and comes afterwards. Nothing is more real than these great shocks, which two souls give each other in exchanging this spark.

Overview

Our eyes give away our innermost secrets. They can communicate attraction and desire and even over distance we can sense when some one is watching us. But have you ever experienced love at first sight? Opinion differ as to the reliability and longevity of such instantaneous attraction, yet it is a phenomenon which seems to strike at the very heart of many and which is celebrated in folklore, mythology and love songs.

In fact, as infants, we express many our needs and desires exclusively through eyes. This facility is something we never lose. The eye skills we learn at this early stage in our lives are critical in establishing and maintaining bonds with other people. Just think about these descriptive phrases: smoldering eyes; icy stare; looking daggers; if looks could kill you; shifty eyes; the green eyed monster; eyes of an angel; piercing blue eyes; sheep’s eyes; bedroom eyes; giving someone the evil eye or the glad eye. They always convey a deep-rooted message or two.

The science of eyes

The eyes are the most important tools in the successful use and understanding of sexual non-verbal communication. They are highly attuned ultra-sensitive sensory organs, shown by psychologists to be 18 times more sensitive than our ears, as measured by the relative size of the optic and cochlear nerves. They are vital both as receptors of non-verbal sexual signals, and as sensual communicators, capable of transmitting intimate covert and overt messages straight into the consciousness of other people.

The secrets and a peep into eyes

Let’s examine some of the psychological secrets that researches have discovered have discovered about the eyes. Experts in this field tell us that the larger the pupil size the more interested we are in what we are looking at, and that this is also a direct indicator of sexual interest and arousal. Research further confirms that men found photographs of women more attractive when the pupils are dilated, likewise, women experience the same reaction.

Setting a romantic mood by turning down the lights partly achieves its success through the resultant pupil dilation, which makes us appear simultaneously attractive and more turned-on. It has exactly the same effect on our companion. This is why candle light dinners are synonymous with romance – candlelight is not only flattering to skin color and texture, it encourages and shows off our pupil dilation to best effect.

The magic of eyes

Stating & Gazing

Let’s analyze two important words associated with our eyes. STARING & GAZING. They are not at all the same thing. One is attacking and the other Inviting. A stare is like shooting invisible arrows from your eyes into the eyes of the person on the receiving end, leaving them cold and defensive or feeling invaded. A gaze, however, welcomes a person into our line of sight, and into our eyes. The person upon whom we gaze feels great warmth. Women generally gaze more than men. This many be because they are often more attentive listeners. Women find the eyes of men who gaze well attractive, the more so because many men are unskilled at this.

Blinks & Winks

Every time we blink we re-moisturize the surface. The rate at which we blink has a profound unconscious effect on any one looking at or into our eyes. Just think for a minute of the excitement and tension (and often arousal) that takes place in when you play the ‘stating game’. To induce a romantic feel, however, by all means blink. If some one looks at us eye-to-eye and is very attracted to us, not only will that person’s pupil size increase, so will their blink rate. You can increase the blink rate of the person to whom you are talking by blinking more yourself; if the person likes you he or she will unconsciously try to match your blink rate to keep in synchrony with you. This will in turn make you both feel attracted to each other.

The wink proper is a fantastically powerful sexual signal when it is employed by women, but is often something of a turn-off when used by men. Men can use winks to send a clear message of sexual intent towards a woman, but they are best delivered subtlety. The ‘quieter’ the wink, the more pleasing it is to receive. Delivered in conjunction with a gentle smile it can be devastating.

Tip of the day

One of the most erotic ways to touch someone early in an intimate encounter is to give them a ‘butterfly kiss’.

Now what is a ‘butterfly kiss”? This is when you gently caress the cheek or may be the nose of the other person with the tips of the eyelashes of one eye. Try it now on the palm of your hand if you’ve never tried it before. It’s a lovely, soft, tickling feeling.

P.S. Your eyes are your most precious assets in the armory of signals available to you when applying the secrets of attraction, so use them wisely.

How Welding Helmets Protect Your Eyes

Welding helmets are the without a doubt the single most valuable item a welder has to protect himself. Welding helmets have been around for a long time and the technology has steadily improved. They are much more user friendly and offer far more protection. Still, there are a lot of misconceptions about how a welding helmet actually protects the welder from environmental hazards of their job.

Your average layperson commonly believes a welding helmet’s primary task is to shield your eyes from the bright lights of a welding arc. Almost like a welding helmet is a pair of super sunglasses. This is only partially true. The lens’ in the helmet primary job is to filter out ultraviolet and infrared light. The lens is designed to filter out 100% of harmful UV and IR rays from your sensitive eyes. Do not confuse this with whether or not the lens is dark or not. An auto darkening lens will protect the welder from ultraviolet light whether the lens is clear or darkened. It is understandable to think the bright light is the problem because it is visible to the naked eye. The bright light is still damaging to the eye, that’s why the welding helmet has a darkened lens or has an auto darkening feature.

On auto darkening welding helmets, the lens will darken within 4/10ths of millisecond to filter out visible light. This is faster than your eyes have time to react to the light. Anything slower than 4/10ths of a millisecond and you shouldn’t purchase the welding helmet. An auto darkening model protects your eyes 100% of the time from ultraviolet and infrared light whether the lens is clear or darkened and protects you from visible light 4/10ths of millisecond after the arc is lit. This arrangement is far safer than older style welding helmets for the simple reason that you can see when the arc is shut off. After you stop welding the auto darkening lens will become clear. Now you can walk around or see your work area without lifting the helmet. This is very important because another function of the welding helmet is to protect your face and eyes from flying objects. Metal debris and other hazards can still damage your eyes.

Auto darkening welding helmets are definitely the way to go and worth the extra cost. Rest assured the technology will completely protect your eyes from the harmful effects of the welding light. The lens will darken in enough time so your irreplaceable eyes are not damaged. A welder will not sacrifice safety for convenience and actually the auto darkening models are far safer because they allow to keep your face and eyes protected even after the welding arc is extinguished.

How To Wash Your Eyes

LASIK is an efficient and fairly innocuous procedure. It is capable of treating several refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The procedure itself entails virtually no pain and provides rapid recovery. Though the vision will be blurry immediately after surgery, visual acuity will be restored within a few days. However, it takes about 3 to 6 months for the refraction to stabilize. It is imperative that you carry out a scrupulous postoperative regime in order to boost the recovery process and avoid unnecessary complications.

Avoid rubbing your eyes for at least the first week after LASIK surgery. The corneal flap cut out during the surgery requires substantial time to heal. Unnecessary rubbing may inadvertently aggravate the wound. You should also take extreme caution to avoid soap, hair spray or shaving lotion from entering your eyes. The eye surgeon will typically provide you with a postoperative kit, which may include a set of eye shields/goggles. Wear them while you are sleeping, at least for the first three nights after surgery.

For at least a week after LASIK, prevent water from entering your eyes, since water hinders the natural clotting mechanism, and therefore might delay the healing process of the cornea. You must also cancel any swimming plans for a minimum of 10 days following LASIK. You must not wear eye makeup for at least one week after LASIK.

Contact sports are to be avoided for at least a week or so following surgery. Furthermore, it is advised that you wear some kind of protection gear for your eyes for a period of a month, even after resuming exercise and other sporting activities. Bright sunlight may lead to scarring, and therefore, sunglasses are recommended on bright days until the cornea heals.

To summarize, though you will able to resume your usual lifestyle within a week or so after LASIK surgery, it is crucial that you protect your eyes to prevent injury or infection. And since the corneal flap does not heal instantly after surgery, you must prevent washing your eyes for at least a few days after surgery.

If you find a LASIK surgery that you are confident with, you will be able to get more information about post LASIK complications.

How To Use Eye Shadow Like The Stars

Most people feel they have some basic flaws with their appearance, and the truth is that the stars are no exception. Beauties like Angelina Jolie and Beyonce Knowles make no secret of their use of various make-up styles to enhance their appearance, and both of these ladies make splendid use of eye shadow. Eye shadow is designed to attract attention to a person’s eyes (yes, male movie stars use it too!) and at the same time enhances the appearance of the eyes by detracting attention from or covering up minor flaws. Here are some tips on how to apply eye shadow in order that it fixes some of the flaws you may believe are there.

To maximize the effect of your eye shadow, you will want to make sure that people are aware that you have it on. Some beauty experts suggest “priming” your eyes before applying the shadow. The eye lids are a lighter shade than the skin on the rest of the face, due mainly to their lessened exposure to light overt the course of a lifetime. A layer of bone shadow over your lids will even up the coloring with the rest of the face, and any color you apply on top of that will tend to stand out.

Next, experiment with several shades before you decide on the right one for you. A bronze colored eye shadow works for most eyes, and other shades will depend on the color of your own eyes. Blue eyes, for example, will be best complemented with a deeper shade of blue (this will make your own eye color pop out and look extra blue), taupe, violet, or gray. Lighter shades and contrasts work great for brown eyes, while green eyes are bedazzling with the similar shades that are slightly deeper.

Don’t be afraid to try a funky look with your eye shadow. Silvery, sparkly colors can look great and will have an undeniably exotic appeal. Try to match your scheme with your eye color or outfit, and make sure you get some good feedback before trying it out in public!

Finally, there are several techniques that can be used in order to correct the minor flaws you may see in the appearance of your eyes. If you think your eyes are too far apart, you can make them appear closer together by emphasizing the inner corner of your eye. Put more shadow on this area and blend it outwards towards the rest of the eye. Eyes that are too close together can gain the impression of distance by darkening the outer edges of your eye and keeping the inner corners light. Again, make sure to blend the colors so that the emphasis is not apparent. If you want your eyes to look bigger, use a lighter color of eye shadow.

Eye shadow is a great way to change your appearance with a multi-use product that does not cost too much and whose application can be mastered by most individuals. Keep you eyes noticeable, and you will be noticed!

How to Use Eye Contact to Create a Good Impression

Researchers have discovered that one of the most striking differences between people who are socially confident and those who are shy, is that confident people have much more frequent eye contact with their conversational partners.

Many shy people never make eye contact at all, tending to look downward or away, instead of looking at their conversation partner’s face.

Most North Americans, especially Caucasians, prefer to have a lot of eye contact when they are talking with someone. When a person doesn’t make eye contact with them, North Americans tend to assume that person is hiding something.

When you are speaking with someone who is from a culture that prefers a lot of eye contact, be sure to keep looking at that person frequently while you are talking, even while you are wondering what to say next. You don’t need to use a piercing stare, a friendly gaze will do.

If it really bothers you to look directly into another person’s eyes, you can look at the person’s face without focusing solely on the eyes. If you gaze generally at the eyebrow area or the bridge of the nose, this is close enough to the eye region that you will appear to be looking at the person’s eyes.

You may find that it eases your own discomfort if you let your vision go slightly out of focus.

Whenever you are in conversation with someone, keep the majority of your focus on the other person. If you glance around the room too much, or look too frequently at other people, your conversation partner may assume that you are bored, or that you are looking around for someone else you would rather talk with.

If you have difficulty knowing exactly how to make eye contact, you can benefit from practicing in front of a mirror, or with another person.

While some people have difficulty maintaining eye contact during conversations, others have the opposite problem. They stare too intently into other people’s eyes when they are talking to them, often making their conversation partners feel very uncomfortable.

It can be very unpleasant to be on the receiving end of an intense stare, particularly at close range.

In many animals, the use of staring is part of a power struggle to determine which animal is dominant over the other. In humans too, a struggle for dominance over another can often be signaled by a staring contest. Avoid intense, prolonged staring into another person’s eyes, except in very rare situations.

Although some people use staring intently as a deliberate tactic to intimidate others, not all people who stare piercingly at others mean it as an act of aggression or dominance. Some people who stare very intently into the eyes of others are quite unaware of the negative impression they are creating.

If it has been your habit to stare intently into the eyes of other people without looking away, you may have been making your conversation partners very uncomfortable.

You can lighten the impression you are making by smiling more often, nodding, and by gazing at the entire face as well as the eyes. In addition, you can frequently glance away for brief periods.

Although most North Americans like to have a lot of eye contact with their conversational partner, this is not true of all people. If you have grown up in a cultural group that expects eye contact, it can be a shock to find out that eye contact is not always welcomed.

There are many countries in the world where looking someone in the eye is considered to be disrespectful and an invasion of privacy. Even within North America, there are some cultural groups that prefer not to make very much eye contact.

In many cultures around the world, averting your eyes and keeping them lowered is considered the polite, desirable thing to do. In North America, people of African American and First Nations origin usually prefer to make far less eye contact than Caucasians do.

If you are dealing with someone who has different cultural practices than what you are used to, make an effort to be sensitive to the expectations of the other person if you want to have a smooth relationship.

There are many aged people of more than 80 years who continue to maintain good eyesight.

The color black creates a sense of fear within us. No one wants to get blind and live in darkness forever. Every one of us wants to enjoy the true beauty of this world and welcome brightness everyday in our lives. You can continue to have healthy eyesight. For this it’s very important that you take good eye care. Proper and regular eye care will only help you create brightness in your life.

4 Ways to protect your eyes
There are different ways to protect your eyes. The four best ways to take good eye care are

• You need to visit your eye doctor regularly. It would advisable to consult an ophthalmologist if you experience eye aging, eye swelling, and irritation in the eyes, color blindness or any other eye related problems.
• It’s very important that you follow different disease prevention techniques. There are different eye diseases that can lead to permanent loss of eyesight. Few of such diseases are Glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetes. Most of these diseases are incurable. However you can still prevent them if you take regular and timely care.
• Avoid exposing your eyes to the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. Protect your eyes from the sun’s rays as much as you can.
• One of the best ways to protect your eyes from different problems is by wearing safety glasses. You need to wear suitable glasses especially if you are working with hazardous and harmful air-borne materials.

How To Prevent Lazy Eyes

Children enrolled in fitness-oriented gym classes showed greater loss of body fat, increase in cardiovascular fitness, and improvement in fasting insulin levels.

Lazy eye

This is an eye condition that is seen in children where there is lack of development in one eye. This condition needs to be detected early so as to prevent crossed eyes. Eye exercise therapy is used to improve the lazy eye condition. A patch is worn over the good eye for a few weeks or months and the lazy eye is exercised so as to strengthen it.

Exercise tip for an exercise benefit:

Always keep an upbeat point of view about exercise. Realize that it’s a part of life and that it’s very important not only for your health, but for the health of your entire family. Schedule exercise appointments just like you would any other meeting or obligation.

Parkinson’s disease and Exercise

Add reducing the risk of Parkinson’s disease to the long list of exercise benefits, a study recently reported in the journal Neurology concludes. The study followed over 100,000 people and found that those who reported regular, vigorous activity as teenagers and young adults reduced their risk of developing Parkinson’s disease as they aged by about 60%. Ted Dawson, a neurologist with a research interest in Parkinson’s at Johns Hopkins, says exercise also benefits those who already have the condition.

Despite the strong case for staying active, many people find it difficult to adapt their daily lives to incorporate physical activity. With cars on most driveways and the decline in the number of physically active jobs, 70% of the adult population is sufficiently inactive to be classed as “sedentary”. Being sedentary increases the risk of a heart attack or stroke by the same amount as smoking.

If you have previously been inactive and 30 minutes of activity per day sounds like a tall order, the good news is that separate sessions of ten minutes can count towards the total.

It’s possible to achieve your 30 minute target by making fairly simple changes to your everyday routine, without joining the gym or running a marathon.

Examples of everyday activities that count:

1. walking up stairs instead of using lifts,
2. walking up moving escalators,
3. for short journeys, walking instead of driving,
4. doing the housework at “double-time”,
5. DIY and gardening, such as painting or raking leaves.

Perhaps try actitivies to music, such as dance or aerobics, and make sure you vary your activity a little so you don’t get bored. Try exercising in beautiful scenery, such as on a beach or in a park. Maybe you could buy yourself some new exercise clothes that you like wearing and feel good in.

How To Pick A LASIK Eye Surgeon

LASIK is referred to the surgery performed on the human eye to reshape the cornea, which eventually produces clearer vision and also reduces the person’s needs to wear spectacles or contact lenses. The short form of LASIK is Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. LASIK involves the use of a laser which is directed on the cornea of the eye to correct vision problems in a human being. LASIK is used to correct eye problems like myopia and astigmatism. The laser works on the eye by removing an exact amount of tissue from the cornea to restore clear vision in the patient. Today LASIK includes the use of new wave front guided technology in the custom LASIK system which provides better results than before.

Today we lay more emphasis on the how to pick a good LASIK surgeon. Though LASIK is not as difficult as other eye operations, care should be taken to see that it is being carried out by a professional doctor, as the eye is one of the most delicate organs of the human body. After all, the entire human eye is the most precious sense of the human body. You may find many advertisements in the newspapers offering LASIK surgery at affordable costs. You should always remember not to approach a particular surgeon just because he is offering his services at lower costs. In fact the cost of the surgery should be the last thing on your mind. Do not assume too much from advertising and make your own conclusions. Find out more about the reputation of the doctor or the institute from other sources like the consumer bureau or your friends or relatives. Find out if the surgeon is associated with any reputable medical center or a medical hospital. You can also ask your ophthalmologist to recommend good surgeons for LASIK. You can visit websites like the American Academy of Ophthalmology to get more information on a particular surgeon.

Also you should select a surgeon who is well versed with the latest techniques and procedures and keeps himself up to date of all the new information that is available in medical journals and bulletins. Ask the surgeon since how many years he is being practicing LASIK surgery. Ask him only about LASIK and not other eye related surgeries. A good surgeon should be performing refractive surgery for a minimum of 3 years and also he should have performed more than 500 surgeries at least.

Before going in for a surgery, it is necessary to make an appointment of consultation with the surgeon that you have finally selected. A good surgeon will conduct a thorough test on your eyes and then suggest the best procedure for you. He will explain to you the process in detail and also tell you the benefits after the surgery. The surgeon may tell you to follow some pre-operation procedures like applying eye drops some days before the operation. A good surgeon will always make you feel at ease before the operation, during the operation and after the operation. After consultation it is not necessary that you go for the surgeon. In case you are not comfortable with the surgeon then you can take a second opinion.

Also it is prudent to go for a surgeon who treats you like a friend and instills some confidence in you. He should be able to provide you a personal touch and should work hard to address your concerns and clear your doubts. A surgeon’s responsibility does not get over once the surgery is performed. He should check your eyes a week after your surgery and then recommend treatment procedures if any. In short he should be available whenever he is needed for anything even after the surgery.

How To Make The Most Of What’s Naturally Yours

The eyes are generally considered the most beautiful part of the body.

They are seen as “windows to your soul,” and very few people decline to comment on a pair of striking eyes. Fortunately, they are also the easiest of features to enhance. So read on and discover how to make those eyes really “pop” and catch attention.

When you are first learning how to apply eyeliner, it can be one of the trickiest tasks to master. But when it is applied properly, the overall effects can be absolutely amazing. Skillful application of different eyeliner can help make your eyes look more evenly spaced, thus giving a better balance to your entire face, and this is only one of the benefits. The following tips will cover several aspects of eyeliner, including how to chose the right eyeliner for your eyes, and how to properly apply it to your eyes.

Choosing the Right Eyeliner

Like all beauty care products, choosing the right eyeliner is simple if you already know the effects you hope to accomplish by wearing it. In addition to helping balance the face, eyeliner is also meant to give lashes more depth, and make them appear thicker than they really are. Although there are two types of eyeliner, liquid and pencil form, it is recommended to only use pencil form on the lower lids of the eyes. Eyeliner in liquid form is most effective when only used on the top lids of your eyes.

When choosing the color of your eyeliner, you should always chose a color that complements the eye shadow you are going to use, but be sure it is a color that is flattering to your natural eye color. With brown eyes, the darker colors of eyeliner prove to work best, and with blue eyes, the softer colors tend to be most flattering.

Pencil Form Eyeliner versus Liquid Form

As mentioned before, eyeliner comes in two forms, pencil and liquid. Pencil eyeliner creates a soft definition to the eyes, while liquid eyeliner tends to offer more precision, and a more dramatic effect. When trying to chose which form of eyeliner to use, keep in mind the overall look you hope to accomplish.

Pencil form eyeliner is more popular, in part because it is easier to use. Liquid eyeliner requires practice in order to apply it correctly.

How to Apply Eyeliner – the Basics

To apply eyeliner correctly, you need to maker sure you have applied all other make-up first. If you apply your other make up on top of the eyeliner, it not only takes away from the effects, but during the application process, your eyeliner could get smudged or smeared.

Once you have all your other make-up on, make sure you have a good mirror and appropriate lighting, then begin. In one smooth motion, draw a thin line from one side of your eyelid to the other, remaining as close as you can to your eyelash line. How thick you chose to make that line will have a bearing on your final results.

Eyeliner is an inexpensive addition to your collection of beauty care products and can show stunning results – now you know how to catch attention and draw those admiring gazes.

Best Products for Acne Control

Acne is a problem that is more than skin deep. The best treatment for acne will involve nutrition and herbs both internally and externally. In addition to these two elements, the control of acne requires thorough, gentle cleansing. Therefore, there are three steps to beautiful clear skin – internal treatment, external treatment, and cleansing.

The best internal treatment for acne will be one that contains herbal medications. These require no prescription. Many other medications for acne control do require a prescription, and can only be used for severe cases. In addition, many of these prescription medications have serious side effects. Some, like Accutane, have been found to cause depression, and even suicide. Herbs, on the other hand, are natural, gentle, and effective.

The external part of a good acne control system must have certain characteristics as well. For one thing it needs to not be a drying formula, and yet it needs to control the oil in your skin. It should be able to be used on either a severe case or a mild case. It should contain botanical ingredients that heal and strengthen the cellular structure of your skin. The cleanser should remove extra sebum, the natural oil in your skin, which contains the bacteria that cause acne.

The other part of a good quality acne control system is a lotion or gel to treat the blemishes after cleansing the face. This product should be able to unplug the pores. It also should fight the bacteria that causes acne. It should also be formulated with a transdermal delivery system so that the helpful, natural ingredients are absorbed into the skin thoroughly.

Why do you get acne? The actual outer layer of skin is dead, but under this thin layer called the epidermis, the cells are alive and multiplying. Normally your skin is shedding the old cells and replacing them with new ones. The problem happens when too many dead skin cells clump together with the natural skin oils, called sebum, and cause the pores to get clogged.

Acne is a skin disorder that actually starts two or three weeks before the blemish appears. The beginning is the clogging of the pore. The natural bacteria that live on the skin begin to multiply inside the pore since the excess oils can’t get out. Since the body is fighting bacteria, white blood cells arrive on the scene, and inflammation is the result.

Obviously, frequent cleansing is an important step in acne control, since the extra skin cells and oils need to be removed in order to keep them from clogging the pores in the first place. But washing too often can be drying to the skin. For these reasons, skin cleansers need to be very gentle.

Natural cures are the best treatment for acne mainly because they are devoid of any side effects. Acne is an inflammatory disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin. The oil produced by the gland gets clogged and this in turn results in papules, pustules and comedones.

Best Face Forward

Young people don’t require much of a reason to be mean to each other and acne has been a longstanding source of peer-based cruelty.

If you suffer from acne, it’s a safe bet you’ve tried creams. Face it, most of the time they don’t work. You may try makeup, but someone always seems to notice.

There will always be those who have theories as to why you have acne. While opinions vary, there are some things that can help you feel better about yourself and maintain a healthy lifestyle in the midst of acne frustration.

Spending time participating in physical activities and being responsive to a healthy diet may go a long way in giving your body the boost it needs to help provide the overall wellbeing you need during adolescence and beyond.

Participating in physical activities may also prove beneficial in other areas. You may have heard that stress is a condition that intensifies acne production. There are three responses to stress that you should consider.

1. You can do nothing.
2. Your physician may prescribe a drug to reduce your stress.
3. You can participate in meaningful activities to reduce your stress.

Doing nothing relegates you to victim status while the downside of a prescription drug is that, not only is it costly, but many of these stress-reducing drugs actually contribute to acne production. This leaves ‘meaningful activities’ as the best source of stress relief.

Sugar may not be the source for acute acne problems; however, excessive sugar is associated with the rise in blood sugars which may cause inflammation in the skin and a correlating rise in acne production.

While washing your face is an important part of personal hygiene, it may do little to actually eliminate acne production. Facial cleansing is a topical approach, while acne is produced in a different way. “Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones and other substances on the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles. These factors lead to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits.” (Department of Health and Human Services)

The Department of H.H.S. also admits, “Although acne is usually not a serious health threat, it can be a source of significant emotional distress.” Source: Questions and Answers About…Acne)

When you struggle with acne you are very aware of the emotional distress it can cause in both personal opinions and social situations.

The truth is acne is a normal part of adolescence and can follow many into adulthood. The food you eat, the amount of stress you have, the cleanliness of your face may have some bearing on your facial blemishes, but you do have options.

The real question you may be asking yourself is, “If acne will still form despite my best efforts, what is my next line of defense?” Knowledge is always a powerful tool in when you are seeking solutions.

Best Acne Treatments Start With Understanding Your Current Lifestyle

If you happen to be searching for the best acne treatments, before you choose your treatment I would suggest that you take a little memory trip back to your teen years, and assess how your skin used to be back then.

For individuals still in their teens, I would recommend that you check and see what is going on in your life right now, and see what may be different or has changed prior to you having your problem skin!

I know most of you may think that it’s all part of nature, or it’s part of your family genetics, and you would like to find that miracle cure! However, the true problem may exist because of your lifestyle choices, and until you fully understand why you’re currently experiencing severe blemish breakouts, or increased blackheads in your pores, you can then follow the cycle of your consistent outbreaks that cause you to feel helpless in your battle.

It’s a fact that our society is placing more pressures on students, and many working individuals. Schools are placing more study loads on the student, and the business industry is downsizing, causing more hours to be placed on the employees! What this does to your body and your mind is that it places an incredible load of stress on you, as well as the affects, which can easily change your daily lifestyle.

You may be asking, how does this all come into play with my acne condition, and how do I connect these facts to my acne treatment?

There are many studies out today indicating that “stress” and the way you take care of your body, and the products you may be using are a contributing factor to your pimples and blackheads. If you can look back when you had good skin and see what you may have been doing differently, you could hopefully make some lifestyle changes for the better. With these changes, you could possibly see positive results, and avoid having to take acne medications prescribed by your dermatologist.

There are many elements that can be contributing to your skin blemishes, and the ingredients in the select treatment product you’re using can also be the cause of your skin irritation, which is causing your reoccurring pimple breakouts. So let’s look at some topics that have come up in some studies, and see if we can clarify some of the elements that may be affecting your current lifestyle.

Facial Medications, Caffeine, Stress, And The Sun! What Do They Have In Common, And How Does It Affect Your Blemish Situation?

I’m not a doctor, and I don’t have any professional skin care background, but what I do have is a common sense approach to issues. When I read about certain acne products, and also the food and drink we consume on a daily basis, plus the type of life we live makes sense to me when we mix it all together and try and link it to our skin condition.

First we should talk about coffee, pop and alcohol, and see what the connection is to skin problems. In my opinion, the way I interpret coffee, pop and alcohol is that they contribute several elements to your body that assist in major changes to your skin.

Caffeine and sugar in coffee and pop, plus alcohols are partial diuretics that assist in drawing more water out of your body than bringing water back in, plus they’re a stimulant and can prevent you from getting the recommended amount of sleep that your body needs, which ranges from at least 7 to 8 hours per night. What this all means is that by consuming these products daily, they could be changing the entire dynamics of your body, and affecting you dramatically without you even realizing the changes.

What happens is this: your body may become over stimulated with all these items going through your system, and either consumed separately or in combination, your skin may seriously become affected by these products. Depending on your body’s tolerance level, your reactions could be reflected by the daily consumption.

Let’s look at the connection of the cleansers, creams, and acne cosmetics you’re currently using, and see why some may not work to prevent your acne breakouts or increased blackheads. When taking a common sense approach to the ingredients, avoid any product that will shrink your pores! Now this information may contradict products that say they reduce pore size, and make them look less visible.

What that means I don’t know. But when you think about it for a moment, if you have a product that shrinks your pores, that’s going to increase the chance that you will have more oil trapped in your skin. The more of the skin’s oil that is potentially blocking your pores, the higher chance you’re going to form blackheads and whiteheads, plus the trapped oil will be tasty food for bacteria that feeds off the oil and dead skin, eventually turning it into a nasty blemish. Think about that, and if it makes sense to you, then avoid products that have any astringent agents in them.

The sun is one that I have been very confused about for a long time, but again when it was explained to me, it made total sense, and now I really understand the benefits and the damages it can cause. The sun actually can help you in your battle on acne; however, the time you spend in the sun can make the big difference. I found out that the sun actually aids in killing bacteria on your skin, but you should limit your time to approximately 15 minutes per day, because when you spend long periods of time in the sun, it will eventually dry and reduce the pores in your skin. Now like above, what happens when the pores shrink? Absolutely, trapped oil and the formation of zits!

Stress, in my opinion, is the biggest contributor to your body’s lifestyle changes, and believe it or not, it seems to tie in with everything above, because stress is caused by many elements from the types of food you consume, to the everyday lifestyle you lead with your work and play.

Again, I’m not a doctor, but even with my own body I notice that if I don’t get enough sleep, or I worry about a project that has to be completed, and the everyday choices I make in cleaning my skin all is in some way a contributor to stress, and the changes in my body. So when you sit back and see if you can adjust anything in the way you live your life for the better, you may be on the right track to not only a healthier lifestyle, but also clearer, blemish free skin!

Best Acne Treatments for Teenagers

There are several criteria for acne treatments for teenagers. Number one – they must have a high rate of success. Two, they should be simple to use. And number three, they must be safe for your skin, preferably good for sensitive skin.

Preferably, they should also be fast acting. And low cost. Teens and parents should not have to spend hundreds on dermatologists and facial peels.

There are two systems that I think qualify for serious consideration for those seeking acne treatments for teenagers.

The first was created by a Board Cerified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon, Dr Beckman. He has a background in chemistry as well as 24 years of experience in plastic surgery, where he developed expertise in the principles of skin restoration. He has developed a two step system, which is by its nature simple to follow.

The first step is an antimicrobial wash that gets rid of 99.9% of all bacteria on the skin’s surface for up to 12 hours. This reduces the chance for infection to occur, and many people using his system have found that even if they were on oral antibiotics or accutane that this alone was able to help prevent future acne outbreaks. This cleanser is also excellent for removing dirt and oily deposits on the skin.

The next step is a topical medication designed to encourage the skin’s natural process of exfoliation. This treatment contains salicylic acid and lactic acid, which remove dead skin cells and oily plugs from the sebaceous glands to prevent acne by unclogging pores. Lactic acid encourages the growth of new collagen and elastin, whilst restoring the skin’s natural PH balance.

This acne treatments for teenagers system has been used by people with all types of acne – from mild to severe cystic acne. It is 100% effecive on people with Grades 1 & 2 acne, 80-90% successful with Grades 3 acne, and very effective in controlling new breakouts with Grade 4 acne sufferers. Users on prescription medications like accutane were able to cut back on their dosage or stop using it altogether.

In a study of high school and college students over 12 weeks, all participants had some degree of improvement, and most improvements were within a two week period. So the Reversion system is fast acting. Grades 1 & 2 acne sufferers achieved total control of their acne, and Grades 3 & 4 achieved dramatic improvements.

The next system of acne treatments for teenagers that I recommend is by Zen Med. Theirs is a 3 step system, with a little bit of a different approach to Reversion. They have two topical applications like Reversion, a cleanser and an acne treatment medication. But they also have herbal acne supplements included in the package.

This is an important part of the treatment, and one of the reasons they have such a high success rate with many people’s acne clearing up for good. The Zen Med system was developed using the 3000 year plus expertise of Traditional Chinese Medicine, combined with modern therapeutics. Theirs is an all natural, all herbal preparation that works on mild to severe acne. It does not contain drugs and there are no side effects.

Many people who tried traditional prescription medication but did not achieve satisfactory results on these were very happy with what the Zen Med system did for their skin. One of the big pluses in this acne treatments for teenagers is that most people using it stopped their acne at the source within 1 to 3 months – this is not a treatment that you will have to be using for the rest of your life.

There are several products which a person can consider as the best acne treatment. Before determining which is the best acne treatment one needs to assess the level of toxicity in the acne treatment product.

Before we discus the best acne treatments let us see what acne is all about. Acne is a common skin disease which is believed to occur in up to 85% of the people at one time or another. The best acne treatment could also range from the traditional herbal acne remedies to the modern medicines like acne light treatment which are proved to offer better results.
