Risks And Complications Of Laser Eye Surgery

Most patients who undergo refractive surgery are delighted with the results. However, just like any other surgical procedure, there are also some risks that come with it. This is why it is very important to be aware of the possible complications, effects and laser eye surgery risks.

Here is a list of the most common laser eye surgery risks, and complications.

In order to understand the complications, there has to be a simple understanding of the procedure of Lasik eye surgery. Lasik eye surgery involves the cutting of a small flap in the front covering of the eye or cornea. The flap is lifted so that the laser may reshape the eye and then the flap is replaced as a type of bandage.

The flap is cut using a type of bladed instrument called a “microkeratome” or else with a laser. The surgeon’s preference determines what technology is used. Using a laser to perform this portion of the procedure allows for more precision and, therefore, fewer complications are likely to arise.

Now, if the flap is not cut correctly it may fail to form properly to the surface of the eye. The flap might also be cut too small or thin, which would cause wrinkling upon the attempt to adhere the flap to the surface of the eye. These complications can lead to an irregularly shaped eye surface and in time may lead to astigmatism or blurry vision.

Vision Loss

After the procedure, a very small percentage of all patients experience a vision loss which cannot be corrected with glasses, contacts or a second surgery. This is a very rare, but very serious laser eye surgery risk.

Debilitating Visual Symptoms

Some patients experience halos, glare or double vision after surgery. This causes serious night vision problems. Even if they have a good vision on the vision chart, they may not see well at night, in fog or in other situations of low contrast. They may even see worse in these situations than they did before treatment.

Under Treatment or Over Treatment

This is a very frequent laser eye surgery risk. Only a small percentage of patients obtain 20/20 vision after surgery without glasses or contacts. You may need additional treatment to enhance vision, but this is not always possible. Even if you used to wear very weak prescription glasses before treatment, you may still need glasses or contact lenses afterwards. If you used to wear reading glasses before, you might still need them after surgery.

Severe Dry Eye Syndrome

Another laser eye surgery risk is to develop serious dry eye syndrome. After surgery, your eyes might not be able to produce enough tears for keeping moist. This not only produces discomfort, by can also reduce quality vision due to permanent blurring and other problems. This eye condition may be permanent. It is usually treated with intensive eye drop therapy, but other procedures can also be used.

Results Diminishing with Age

Another laser eye surgery risk is for results to decrease over time, especially in patients with farsighted vision. If your manifest refraction (an exam with lenses before using dilating drops) differs from your cyclopegic refraction (another exam with lenses after applying dilating drops), the chances of getting this side effect are higher.

For newer technologies, there is not enough research data available. As some of them have been developed only a few years ago, long-term effectiveness and safety cannot be determined yet. Even though they are more advanced, they might have some unknown long-term side effects.

As with any surgical procedure, there are a variety of complications. Care must be taken to select the right Lasik eye surgeon for your specific needs and also to decide of Lasik eye surgery is the right procedure for you. The most important factor in successful surgery is to find an experienced surgeon, who will monitor your follow up care, and be there with you if you find yourself having any of these complications.

Retirement Looks Different Through a Woman’s Eyes

The classic picture of a couple retiring and the wife cashing in on the great retirement planning of the husband is a pretty picture for sure but it doesn’t always line up very well with reality. For thousands of women, seeing the retirement years ahead mean you will be making plans for retiring yourself. But even if you have a husband, it’s a good idea to look at retirement with the idea of what if you have to face it alone. It’s a sad statistic but women outlive men in general. So if you get to retirement or just before it and you find yourself facing that next transition of life, retirement looks a lot different through a woman’s eyes than when a man does the same preparation.

Saving up for retirement is something that is at least as important if not more important for women as it is for men preparing for the same time of their lives. And since women typically earn somewhat less than men during their careers, sitting down and thinking through the formula of how much to set aside for retirement should be a carefully considered act and one that is repeated frequently over the years to make sure you are on track.

This is especially true if your work is not in the conventional world of big business. If you make a good living running your own antique shop or as an entrepreneur as many women do, you have to think about your retirement planning yourself because you will not have the advantages of a company sponsored 401k plan to cash in on. So as soon as you feel you know that the way you make your living is not gong to change, start your saving and investing immediately.

On the other side of that equation, it might be worth taking a look at getting into a corporate situation entirely for the insurance and the retirement benefits. While there is often a “glass ceiling” in the business world, if you know why you are there which is to build a strong retirement planning package, you can leverage your position in the business world shrewdly and not have the stresses that many men endure in that same setting.

Above all, make it your private passion to learn all you can about investments and ways you can build your retirement portfolio. With the advent of internet trading, often a woman can start with very little and with some careful investing and conservative stock purchases, build up an impressive portfolio that can serve as an excellent retirement vehicle down the road.

Just as you may have done if you spent your working years in a family situation, you should look at how your money is used not only for the immediate value but as an investment down the road. It is often convenient to live in an apartment or rental property because when you are a working woman, upkeep on a home is a nuisance. And if you don’t like mowing the lawn and all of the other overhead of a home, that purchase may not fit your lifestyle.

Nonetheless, home ownership is one of the smartest ways to go about building equity in advance of retirement. You might look at buying a house as a big step toward financial independence in your retirement years. The way the tax laws are structured, you will get a lot of financial value out of home ownership and it can serve as the basis for further financial planning once your ownership of the home is secured. So take a second look at home ownership in a house with a yard and all of the trappings. If the overhead is too much to take on, you can often bring in renters or roommates who may enjoy that aspect of living in a house and you can cut them some slack on the rent if they take care of upkeep of the place.

By beginning to plan early in life for retirement later, women can do just as well as men in preparing for this important part of life. But you have to face the responsibilities of retirement planning squarely and not procrastinate on starting your investment and retirement portfolios far enough ahead that they will pay off later. If you do, you too can enjoy a peaceful and prosperous retirement years.

Renault Eyes Purchasing Saab

With the misfortunes of America’s two largest automakers being trumpeted frequently on the news, it seems as if little attention is being paid to some of the other automakers out there. France’s Renault, once in poor shape itself, has rebounded nicely and is prospering with its relationship with Nissan, a company it has controlling interest in. Speculation is that Renault wants a greater piece of the luxury car market, even beyond Nissan’s luxury division, Infiniti. Would General Motors consider selling Saab to Renault or would the French automaker be better off looking elsewhere? Let’s take a look at some options for Renault.

Make a bid for Saab. It is no secret that the Swedish automaker hasn’t been much of a hit for General Motors. Unlike the other Swedish automaker Volvo, itself owned by Ford, Saab has produced little benefit for GM since being brought into the fold in 1990. A clash in management styles hasn’t helped with GM’s line management style going up against Saab’s egalitarian style. Although not exactly a luxury line, Saab could be upgraded and give Renault renewed access to the American market and much needed cash for GM.

Go after Jaguar. Much like Saab’s relationship with GM, Jaguar hasn’t done a lot for Ford. Unlike GM, however, Ford has handled its international acquisitions much better and has allowed its new holdings to continue to plan and expand their product lines without excessive dictation from Detroit. Still, the value of Jaguar remains strong and the time for Ford to sell this British automaker off would be now. Let’s just see how well the French and British work things out too!

Ramp up Infiniti. Even in expressing interest in acquiring another automaker, Renault does have its own “in house” luxury line in Infiniti. After a poor start, Infiniti has strengthened its product line and is better poised to compete against Lexus and Acura. A careful “retuning” of Infiniti could also yield a line of cars better suited to compete against BMW and Mercedes who essentially lead the luxury car market in the Europe. Working with the existing lnfiniti brand would be cost effective too.

Introduce a new luxury line. Much as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan have introduced luxury lines of their own vehicles, Renault could do the same and profit immensely. With Hyundai expected to do the same, Renault’s new luxury division could give the automaker instant access to the luxury market and prepare the company for reentry into the U.S.

As much as General Motors and Ford are reeling right now, neither Saab nor Jaguar may be auctioned off. At present, both Swedish automakers have a significant cross division investment that cannot be easily disconnected. Planned vehicles in the Saab pipeline would have to be scuttled, which would effectively reduce the automaker’s value overnight.

Renault may still be eyeing Saab, but the logistics aren’t that easily worked out.

Removing Red Eye On Your Digital Photographs

You’ve seen the dreaded demon-eye effect that occurs when the camera flash bounces off the eye of a person or pet. An otherwise wonderful picture can be ruined by this.

Technically, this is called red-eye and is caused when the pupil of your subject’s eye is wide open and the light from the camera’s flash reflects off the subjects retina. In people, the color ends up red; in pets, the color is often green.

Many photo editing programs include a red-eye correction filter, but this may not allow your photograph subject to appear “normal. These filters also do not work on the green effect produced in a pet’s eyes. Photo stores sell pens that are used to clear up red-eye, but again they are not always natural-looking and do not work on the green. The best thing is to prevent the demon-eye effect from the start.

It is rare to find a digital camera that does not come with a red-eye reduction feature. This feature can be turned off or on. It is best left on in all circumstances other than direct sunlight. The red-eye reduction feature works by flashing a short burst of light at your subject before you snap the picture. This burst of light causes the subject’s pupil to close and makes it less likely for the camera’s flash to reflect off the retina. This in turn reduces the chance of red-eye.

It also helps to direct the flash of your camera so it does not directly hit your subject’s eyes. Bouncing the flash off a nearby wall or other object will soften its effect and reduce the chances of this unwanted malady. Between bouncing the flash and using your digital camera’s red-eye reduction feature, your little angel, whether human or animal, will have eyes that don’t glow.

Rejuvenate yourself

Rejuvenate yourself: Youthful, brighter eyes with a cosmetic surgery Brow Lift

Your eyebrows frame the most important feature on your face. After all, your eyes are the window to your soul, and people connect with you through them! All eyes are beautiful, but sagging skin or abnormalities can detract from their beauty.

A brow lift is a simple procedure that can make a dramatic difference in the entire look of your face. It can be one of the easiest ways to correct the facial problems that prevent you from putting your best face forward!

What Can a Brow Lift Do For Me?

* Do you have eyelid bags, excess or sagging tissue around the brow and upper eyelid that hangs down over the lower lid, making you look tired or sad? A brow lift can lift the sagging tissue, bring your eyes out of hiding, and make your eyes appear larger and more open.

* If you have frown wrinkles between your eyes, a brow lift can eliminate them.

* If you have an eyebrow deformity, a brow lift can correct it.

* Do you wish your brows had more of an arch or a different shape? This can usually be accomplished with a brow lift.

* If you wish your brows were better positioned on your face, a brow lift can create a more symmetrical and natural look. By lifting your brows upward, you will appear fresher and more energetic.

What Happens in a Brow Lift Operation?

You are given a general anesthetic so that you are asleep for the entire operation. Five incisions are required for a brow lift, but they are so tiny that your hair need not be trimmed. Three are placed on your scalp above your forehead hidden by your hair, and the other two are made within the hair next to your temples.

The surgeon then lifts the tissue upward and repositions it based on your desired results. This procedure lifts any sagging skin and reduces wrinkles.

Scars generally heal very well and are hidden by your hair. You may even shampoo the day after the operation.

This procedure is called an endoscopic brow lift. Sometimes an endoscopic brow lift is performed along with eyelid correction surgery, which actually removes excess skin and fatty folds in the upper eyelid, creating a tiny scar in the upper eyelid that is hidden within the crease.

What Can I Expect After the Operation?

A brow lift is an outpatient procedure, so you can go home the same day. You will need someone to drive you home, however, as you might be sleepy from the anesthetic.

For two to three days following the operation, you will have some swelling, and your forehead will feel tight. Your eyelids may be bruised for about two weeks, but this can usually be covered by makeup after five to seven days. Patients generally experience less bruising with an endoscopic brow lift than with eyelid correction surgery.

You may experience a mild headache for the first couple of days after the surgery, for which you will receive a prescription.

Within two weeks of the procedure, your stitches will be removed, and you can return to work.

Your brows will probably be lifted slightly higher than you wish them to be in their final position. This is because they will drop somewhat as the tissues relax during the first few weeks after surgery. If your brows appear too high at first, you may compensate with makeup until they settle into their correct position.

Your eyebrows may not be perfectly matched even after surgery, but this is actually more natural. No one has eyebrows that are exactly alike, and the differences will be too slight to be noticeable.

A brow lift will not hinder your natural facial expressions at all. You will retain all of your normal eyebrow and facial movement abilities.

What Are the Risks of a Brow Lift?

While there is risk with any surgery, the risks of brow lift surgery are extremely small. You will be given written material to read, and all potential risks will be discussed with you prior to your decision to have a brow lift.

You and the doctor will evaluate and discuss the best brow position for you in order to achieve your desired results. Dr. Arthur Millman will strive to give you a natural look while correcting the problems that concern you.

What is the Recovery Schedule?

* Headache and forehead tightening is usually gone within 2-3 days.
* Bruising and swelling is usually gone within 5-10 days.
* Stitches are removed, and you may return to work or other social activities within 7-14 days.
* Brows will relax into their final position, and you may resume exercise or athletic activities within 14-21 days.

Refractive Eye Surgery

Refractive surgery is a general term referring to the collection of many different surgical procedures, all with the key intent to fix the refractive error of the eye. Refractive surgery is the preferred treatment for rectifying a variety of vision impairments. Its popularity is owing to the fact that it produces efficacious and predictable vision improvement without any major side effects.

Essentially speaking, refractive surgery is any eye surgery employed to improve visual acuity and decrease dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The refractive surgery field encompasses operative procedures for all types of refractive errors, be it myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism or presbyopia. The most common procedure is to use lasers to reshape the corneal tissue.

Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most commonly performed refractive surgery procedure. Especially recommended for treating nearsightedness, it consists of cutting a flap in the cornea in order to carve the tissue underneath and give it the desired shape. The eye surgeon may either use a microkeratome (a precision surgical instrument) or a laser to cut a flap of the corneal tissue. Then onwards, the underneath tissue is reshaped with the aid of the excimer laser (a high-precision ultraviolet chemical laser).

Other refractive surgery procedures include Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelium Keratomileusis (LASEK), EPI-LASIK, Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), Radial keratotomy (RK) and arcuate keratotomy (AK), among others. Cataract extraction and intraocular lens implants may also be considered as types of refractive surgeries, since the key intent is to extract the lens with a refractive error and replace it with a new lens that provides clear and improved vision.

As of now, LASIK is a clear winner among the available eye corrective surgical procedures. All the above listed refractive surgery procedures have potential complications. However, LASIK has a minimal complication rate of a mere 5%. With the technology in hand and with proper pre-operative examination, your laser eye surgery would go as smooth as a walk in the park.

Reading glasses

Reading glasses come in two main styles: full frames, and half-eyes, the smaller Franklin glasses that sit lower down on the nose. Many people feel they look better in contact lenses rather than eyeglasses. Reading glasses are suitable for people who spend a great deal of time concentrating on material close-up. Contacts lenses are a safe and effective alternative to eyeglasses when used with care and proper supervision.

The need for reading glasses has long been associated with being old. Have you found yourself having to push that magazine out at arm’s length to see the fine print? You’ve officially reached middle age. However contact lenses, when compared with eyeglasses, require a longer initial examination, more follow-up visits to maintain eye health, and more time for lens care.

Reading glasses can be custom-made for each individual through an optical dispenser, or they can be purchased “ready-made” at the pharmacy or department store. Contact lenses move with your eye, allow a natural field of view, have no frames to obstruct your vision, and greatly reduce distortions. They do not fog up, like eyeglasses, nor does mud or rain splatter them.

Reading glasses are safe in that they cannot damage the eyes physically, whether or not they are the optimal strength, or whether they are used correctly or incorrectly. Contact lenses, compared to eyeglasses, generally offer better sight.

Reading glasses, containing low power plus sphere lenses, and are widely available for non-prescription, over-the-counter purchase. Most eye-care professionals recommend replacing your contact lenses case every 3 months for optimum eye health.

Quality Lives in the Eye of the Beholder

Regardless of how good you believe your offerings or project solutions are, your clients and customers will be responding to “quality in perception” even more than “quality in fact.” Quality in perception refers to things like courtesies, special considerations, a caring and personalized attitude, and a host of other subtleties that can lead us to believe that we are receiving something above and beyond what we’re paying for.

Those things speak just as loudly, if not more loudly, to our customers and clients than the actual quality in fact we provide through our products, services, and project solutions. Effective quality in perception can help compensate for any gaps in quality in fact that could otherwise irritate or inconvenience consumers. Through examples, this article explains how to recognize deficiencies in quality in perception, and what to do about them.

Example 1 – Driving Your Customers Away

Imagine a car repair service that repeatedly fails to diagnose a problem with a car and cannot fix it correctly after numerous attempts. The car is in the shop off and on for days; the customer, who is a single mom, misses time from work from having to shuttle the car back and forth. The car repair shop has no loaner vehicle, and it does not offer a pickup or drop-off service. The car owner cannot afford a rental car, nor does she have insurance coverage for this need.

In addition to not getting her car fixed, the customer is having her pay docked for missed time at work, plus she’s been given a reprimand. To top it off, she cannot respond to an emergency call from her child’s school when her child is injured on the playground and has to be taken to the hospital. This example shows how one set of poor quality-in-fact circumstances can compound, as the ripple effects expand outward. Yet even with poor quality in fact (the inability to fix the car), the repair shop might have been able to salvage the customer relationship if it had increased its quality in perception, such as by offering sympathy along with a loaner vehicle.

Example 2 – Often, It’s Not about Cost

Some time ago, I was a volunteer mediator in the Small Claims Court system. Over a period of months, I was fascinated with the proportion of cases involving alleged wrongdoing or incompetence. People were suing businesses such as termite services and auto body painters, and even former best friends and health care providers over a variety of grievances. The suits often sought fairly small amounts of compensation, which meant that the financial aspects were not the primary concern.

What repeatedly emerged in the mediation sessions was that each plaintiff felt that the vendor, service provider, health care provider, or ex-friend had not listened to his or her concerns. The plaintiffs frequently believed that their complaints about shortcomings in services, products, or communications had been dismissed. Had the defendants in these cases earlier offered something as simple as an apology — and had they made a sincere effort to communicate while taking timely remedial action — I believe the resulting quality in perception could have prevented many of these lawsuits, even if the quality in fact still left something to be desired.

Example 3 – Honest Communication Matters

A group of consultants took on a major project (a Web site to collect and process data) that their clients truly believed would be easy. The group had not tackled anything like it before, but they, too, thought it would be possible to complete the project quickly. After all, it looked simple. How complicated could a Web site be?

Little did they realize it would be many times more complex than the client’s basic home page. The project finally turned out to be nearly impossible for the consulting group to complete. The consultants finally got the system to work after many delays and dozens of mishaps. The clients, however, were very unhappy, even though the consultants ultimately fulfilled the project requirements (quality in fact).

Whose fault was it? The clients didn’t understand what they were asking for. To top it off, they insisted on a short schedule that reflected their simplistic view of the effort. The consulting group, on the other hand, was not forthright about its own limitations. The partners scurried to find people who claimed to be able to do the work. They kept quiet about their own difficulties and did not reveal their growing problems. The group’s ongoing failure to communicate greatly reduced the clients’ confidence, and drastically shortchanged their quality in perception.

In conclusion, quality in perception can profoundly affect your customers’ and clients’ experiences with your products, services, and project solutions. To make sure you’re not overlooking opportunities to create quality in perception, consider:

1) Special courtesies that can set your offerings apart from your competitors’
2) Your ability to listen to and handle complaints quickly and diplomatically
3) Your willingness to be honest with clients about problems and shortcomings

Remember that quality in perception is not a substitute for quality in fact. But it can go a long way toward minimizing customer and client dissatisfaction, as well as powerfully reinforcing stellar quality when you ultimately deliver it.

Pushing Bad Data

Google stopped counting, or at least publicly displaying, the number of pages it indexed in September of 05, after a school-yard “measuring contest” with rival Yahoo. That count topped out around 8 billion pages before it was removed from the homepage. News broke recently through various SEO forums that Google had suddenly, over the past few weeks, added another few billion pages to the index. This might sound like a reason for celebration, but this “accomplishment” would not reflect well on the search engine that achieved it.

What had people buzzing was the nature of the fresh, new few billion pages. They were blatant spam- containing Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads, scraped content, and they were, in many cases, showing up well in the search results. They pushed out far older, more established sites in doing so. A Google representative responded via forums to the issue by calling it a “bad data push,” something that met with various groans throughout the SEO community.

How did someone manage to dupe Google into indexing so many pages of spam in such a short period of time? I’ll provide a high level overview of the process, but don’t get too excited. Like a diagram of a nuclear explosive isn’t going to teach you how to make the real thing, you’re not going to be able to run off and do it yourself after reading this article. Yet it makes for an interesting tale, one that illustrates the ugly problems cropping up with ever increasing frequency in the world’s most popular search engine.

A Dark and Stormy Night
Our story begins deep in the heart of Moldva, sandwiched scenically between Romania and the Ukraine. In between fending off local vampire attacks, an enterprising local had a brilliant idea and ran with it, presumably away from the vampires… His idea was to exploit how Google handled subdomains, and not just a little bit, but in a big way.

The heart of the issue is that currently, Google treats subdomains much the same way as it treats full domains- as unique entities. This means it will add the homepage of a subdomain to the index and return at some point later to do a “deep crawl.” Deep crawls are simply the spider following links from the domain’s homepage deeper into the site until it finds everything or gives up and comes back later for more.

Briefly, a subdomain is a “third-level domain.” You’ve probably seen them before, they look something like this: subdomain.domain.com. Wikipedia, for instance, uses them for languages; the English version is “en.wikipedia.org”, the Dutch version is “nl.wikipedia.org.” Subdomains are one way to organize large sites, as opposed to multiple directories or even separate domain names altogether.

So, we have a kind of page Google will index virtually “no questions asked.” It’s a wonder no one exploited this situation sooner. Some commentators believe the reason for that may be this “quirk” was introduced after the recent “Big Daddy” update. Our Eastern European friend got together some servers, content scrapers, spambots, PPC accounts, and some all-important, very inspired scripts, and mixed them all together thusly…

Five Billion Served- And Counting…
First, our hero here crafted scripts for his servers that would, when GoogleBot dropped by, start generating an essentially endless number of subdomains, all with a single page containing keyword-rich scraped content, keyworded links, and PPC ads for those keywords. Spambots are sent out to put GoogleBot on the scent via referral and comment spam to tens of thousands of blogs around the world. The spambots provide the broad setup, and it doesn’t take much to get the dominos to fall.

GoogleBot finds the spammed links and, as is its purpose in life, follows them into the network. Once GoogleBot is sent into the web, the scripts running the servers simply keep generating pages- page after page, all with a unique subdomain, all with keywords, scraped content, and PPC ads. These pages get indexed and suddenly you’ve got yourself a Google index 3-5 billion pages heavier in under 3 weeks.

Reports indicate, at first, the PPC ads on these pages were from Adsense, Google’s own PPC service. The ultimate irony then is Google benefits financially from all the impressions being charged to Adsense users as they appear across these billions of spam pages. The Adsense revenues from this endeavor were the point, after all. Cram in so many pages that, by sheer force of numbers, people would find and click on the ads in those pages, making the spammer a nice profit in a very short amount of time.

Billions or Millions? What is Broken?
Word of this achievement spread like wildfire from the DigitalPoint forums. It spread like wildfire in the SEO community, to be specific. The “general public” is, as of yet, out of the loop, and will probably remain so. A response by a Google engineer appeared on a Threadwatch thread about the topic, calling it a “bad data push”. Basically, the company line was they have not, in fact, added 5 billions pages. Later claims include assurances the issue will be fixed algorithmically. Those following the situation (by tracking the known domains the spammer was using) see only that Google is removing them from the index manually.

The tracking is accomplished using the “site:” command. A command that, theoretically, displays the total number of indexed pages from the site you specify after the colon. Google has already admitted there are problems with this command, and “5 billion pages”, they seem to be claiming, is merely another symptom of it. These problems extend beyond merely the site: command, but the display of the number of results for many queries, which some feel are highly inaccurate and in some cases fluctuate wildly. Google admits they have indexed some of these spammy subdomains, but so far haven’t provided any alternate numbers to dispute the 3-5 billion showed initially via the site: command.

Over the past week the number of the spammy domains & subdomains indexed has steadily dwindled as Google personnel remove the listings manually. There’s been no official statement that the “loophole” is closed. This poses the obvious problem that, since the way has been shown, there will be a number of copycats rushing to cash in before the algorithm is changed to deal with it.

Conclusions
There are, at minimum, two things broken here. The site: command and the obscure, tiny bit of the algorithm that allowed billions (or at least millions) of spam subdomains into the index. Google’s current priority should probably be to close the loophole before they’re buried in copycat spammers. The issues surrounding the use or misuse of Adsense are just as troubling for those who might be seeing little return on their adverting budget this month.

Do we “keep the faith” in Google in the face of these events? Most likely, yes. It is not so much whether they deserve that faith, but that most people will never know this happened. Days after the story broke there’s still very little mention in the “mainstream” press. Some tech sites have mentioned it, but this isn’t the kind of story that will end up on the evening news, mostly because the background knowledge required to understand it goes beyond what the average citizen is able to muster. The story will probably end up as an interesting footnote in that most esoteric and neoteric of worlds, “SEO History.”

Biking Sunglasses

If you like riding your motorcycle or enjoy biking in general, you will really benefit from wearing biking sunglasses. Not only do the biking sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun and make it easier for you to see, but these sunglasses made for cycling or motorcycling also protect you from the wind and bits of dirt and dust that fly around.

Although biking sunglasses are mainly for fashion, they are essential for any biker that has sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. Most cyclists wear goggles, and motorcyclists wear helmets, but many of them also wear their regular prescription sunglasses as cycling sunglasses. Oakley was the first company to come up with designer sunglasses such as biking and cycling sun glasses. They have truly polarized lenses to offer the best clarity of vision, which you need when you are on the road.

Since Oakley came out with its line of designer sun glasses for those involved in outdoor sports, many other designers have jumped on the bandwagon. The latest line of biking sunglasses to hit the market make you look like an insect with the design of the frames. Cyclists like them though because they are tight fitting and offer the protection that they need. These cycling sunglasses are really expensive and are used mostly by people that engage in professional cycling, such as the Tour de France.

Many cyclists or motorcyclists do not pay the high prices of designer biking glasses, which could run you $500 or more. According to the experts an ordinary pair of wraparound sunglasses does just as well. If you want biking sunglasses for when you ride your motorcycle, you would benefit from a pair of Oakley Sun glasses because they are so strong. With cycling, though, you are usually not going fast like on a motorcycle and don’t have to worry about debris blowing into your eyes.

Some of the brand names associated with biking sunglasses, in addition to Oakley, include such designer cycling sunglasses as Bolle, Rudy Project, Native, Adidas and Zeal. Most of the designers claim that their style of cycling sun glasses comes from their own racing experiences and what they wanted in the line of sunglasses. With each of these you can choose from different varieties of frames and colors of lenses. Most of the lenses are plastic so that they will not shatter easily if you get hit by something as you are cycling.

So if you need biking sunglasses you have lots of choice.

Protect Your Eye

Do you know that the computer is only one cause of discomfort for contact lens wearers? Have you ever found your eyes are often dry and irritated when wearing them? All these happen because of bad habits in caring for your lenses normally developed in a group of new contact lens’ users.

Properly caring for your lens and following the guidelines for your type is important in protecting your vision and ensuring your contacts are comfortable to wear. See if you’ve been making these following mistakes that could be ruining your contacts and possibly harming your eyes.

The first mistake is that Cleaning Your Lenses With Water. Your eyes are very sensitive and can easily become infected when you do not clean your lenses properly. The lens develops a build up of deposits that can irritate the eye. Lens cleaning solutions will break down the deposits and disinfect the lens.

Moreover, water and homemade saline solutions are not clean enough for cleaning contact lens because they can contain micro-organisms, chlorine and other minerals that can damage the lens and harm your eyes.

Unless you are wearing disposable lenses you must clean your contacts after every wear. Use an appropriate lens case for storage and clean the case and allow to air dry between uses.

Secondly, some users wear contact lens longer than the recommended amount of time, stated on the box. Some contacts are meant to be thrown out after one day of wear. Others can be worn for a week or a month without removing them in between. Most require removal and cleaning every day. It is important to know the schedule your contacts are intended for to prevent problems with your eyes.

Lastly, the hygiene of your eyes is very important. You have to make sure that anything like hands that will contact to your eyes is clean.

When you remove or insert your contacts be sure to handle them with clean, dry hands. It is better to avoid washing your hands with soaps containing perfumes or oils and don’t allow sunscreen, hand cream or nail polish remover to come in contact with them.

You can use eye drops or natural tear to remoisten your contacts when they are dry and irritated while wearing them rather than trying to take them out. In fact, if your eyes do feel dry and the contact is sticking try to remoisten your contacts before attempting to remove them.

If you wear makeup you should insert the contacts before applying cosmetics and remove them before washing cosmetics off. Powders and sprays can irritate contact lens wearers so be careful when applying powdery shadows or hair spray when wearing contact lens. If irritation occurs DO NOT rub your eyes; remove lenses first and clean them in the cleaning solution before wearing again.

Your eyes are precious – take care to protect it from harm. If you do think you’ve injured or infected your eye do not wear your contacts until you have been seen by an eye care specialist.

Avoid Eyestrain

In today’s world, with the predominance of television, computers and videos, people of all ages are suffering from eyestrains. Driving a car and living in the city full of smog can be other main reasons for eyestrains. The common symptom of eyestrain is the blurry appearance of the letters on the computer screen or in the print of the page, which normally appear clear. The eyes hurt so bad that you are forced to shut them for some time.

The most common remedies to cure this problem are:

• Take breaks from work: If you are working on a computer or doing any other type of work, which involves working your eyes at a close distance, then you need to take a break of about two minutes after every hour. By simply closing the eyes and doing nothing will give the eyes the much needed rest.

• Stop reading to refocus: If you are reading continuously, it is highly advisable to take a short break after every 30 minutes and look far away into the distance. When you are working with your eyes close-up, there is a muscle in the eye that contracts. When you shift the focus to an object at a distance, you relieve the muscle of its strain.

• Have a tea break: Using an eyebright tea is a gentle balm for the strained eyes. Eyebright tea is a mixture of various herbal material sold by the health food shops as a remedy for the eyestrain. Soak a towel in the eyebright tea. Lie down and place this warm towel over the closed eyes. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Take care to ensure that the tea does not drip down into the eyes and should be warm but not scalding hot.

• Blink your eyes: Nature has given human eyes their personal masseur viz. the eyelids. Consciously blinking the eyes instead of squinting will cleanse and give them the required massage.

• Use glasses: If you have problems seeing but avoid using glasses due to vanity, you are bound to suffer from eyestrain. If your distance vision is good but cannot read up close then it is highly advisable for you to get a good pair of reading glasses to avoid eyestrain. If your distance vision is bad, use of glasses for curing eyestrain is highly recommended.

• Exercise the eye muscles: Stand at a distance of about five feet from the blank wall. Ask somebody else to toss a ball while you try to catch it every time it bounces off. Alternatively, hold your thumb at the arm’s length, move it in circles and Xs, bringing it closer or far away and follow it with your eyes. These exercises offset the damage caused by eyestrain and improve the brain to nerve coordination for enhanced vision.

Protect Employees From Eye Hazards

Policies and procedures need to be written to outline the hazards relating to eye protection. All employees and visitors entering an area or are performing a function which may expose them to hazards such as flying particles, hazardous substances, and harmful light or other rays of radiation, must wear eye protection.

Different forms of eye protection protect the eyes from a specific hazard. Recommendations as to the type of eye protection required in a specific area should be identified.
1) Spectacle-type safety glasses should be provided to persons requiring frontal protection. Frames and lenses of the spectacle-type safety glasses should meet federal standards.
2) Safety goggles should be provided to persons requiring a full seal-tight protection around the eyes.
3) Face shields should be provided to persons requiring eye and face protection against splashing acids, hot liquids, or even flames.
4) Filter lenses should be provided to persons requiring protection against harmful light and other rays of radiation such as the arc of welding.
5) Temporary eye shields will be provided to persons visiting a designated eye protection area.

All safety glasses, goggles, or face shields should be provided by the employer.
Appropriate eye protection should be provided for use of personnel involved in eye hazard areas. These should be issued to employees and visitors and recorded. For visitors the safety glasses should be returned.

Procedures in with eye protection concerns can be written to include the following:

Procedure 1: All persons shall wear properly fitted federal approved, or equivalent, goggles, force shields or other approved eye protection when engaged in work where there may be a hazard from any materials that may injure or irritate the eyes.
Procedure 2: All sources of intense heat or infra-red radiation shall be shielded as near the source as possible, by heat absorbing screens, water screens, or other suitable devices to prevent such radiation entering the eyes of employees not wearing goggles or eye shields.
Procedure 3: Where any person is exposed to emissions of ultraviolet radiation between 180 nm and 400 nm UV absorbing goggles, spectacles or face shields shall be worn and the exposure to the person shall not exceed the threshold limit value for UV radiation.
Procedure 4: Where deemed necessary by an Officer of the company, or where prescribed under the Regulations, approved safety glasses or goggles shall be worn.

By introducing these simple precautions into the workplace, all employees and visitors will be safe from eye injuries. Another piece of equipment to consider is an eye washing station. This can be located near the most prone area for eye injury in the workplace.

Proclear Lenses

After a few hours of wearing contact lens your eyes tend to dry up and you will feel scratchy. This happens because contact lenses are foreign bodies lodged in your eyes, which is completely unacceptable to the body. The body, therefore, reacts to its presence by fighting the contacts with proteins and lipids, which builds protein deposits on the contacts thereby creating friction and dryness.

In other words, the user of the contacts finds himself caught in the battle between the body and the lenses like an innocent civilian in the middle of a battlefield.

It is in order to circumvent this difficulty that proclear lenses have stepped in. A substance called phosphorylcholine (PC for short) is found naturally in the body. This substance is used to make biocompatible lenses, which remain moist and dry throughout the day. They are different from ordinary contact lenses primarily because due to the presence of PC the body accepts them more easily and does not react to its presence. In other words, despite being a foreign body, it does not appear and feel foreign to the body.

Secondly, they preserve moisture and are, to a large extent, resistant to dehydration, which makes them stay moist all day long. Besides, they also have a water layer which bars the protein and lipid deposition.

Most of the itching and irritation in the eyes is caused due to protein deposition which is a result of restricted oxygen supply through the lens. The proclear lenses disallow the deposition, thus facilitating the supply of oxygen. These lenses are an innovation in the field of contact lenses and have so far been found to work to the utmost satisfaction of the users. However, the comfort level may fluctuate among the users, which means some may be more satisfied than the others.

So, if you are unhappy with your present contacts, you may consider switching to the proclear kind, which might prove a boon right from the blues. It is, however, recommended that before switching over you consult your eye specialist so that he could advice you on the pros and cons of it.

German History

My brother continues to be a great source for new story ideas. Just like he recently linked me up with Bruce Bell, one of Toronto’s most well known experts and historians, he recently read about a German photographer by the name of Susanne Schleyer who had just published a new book, “Unterwegs” (“On the Road”) with 100 photos and stories from 12 different cities: Amsterdam, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Jerusalem, London, Paris, Prague, Rom, San Francisco, Saint Petersburg, Venice and Vienna.

I started doing some research on Susanne’s website and realized that she had done other interesting projects and yesterday I spent two hours on the phone, talking with her in Berlin. Susanne is an interesting individual. She is in her early 40s, and studied art and German philology in Berlin and later photography in Leipzig. From 1990 onwards she has undertaken travels for photography projects to Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Chile, Argentina, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, England, Scotland, Italy and the United States.

For her recent book “Unterwegs” (“On the Road”), Susanne created photos in 12 different cities. Then she selected authors to whom she presented the photos and she requested them to write stories, using the photos as inspiration. The book was just recently published in September of 2005.

The project that fascinated me even more is called “Trilogy – A German History Project”, that she did jointly with another artist, Michael J. Stephan. “Trilogy” consists of 3 exhibitions composed of images and sound collages that are each independent but connected. The exhibitions explore German history, sixty years after the end of World War II and the collapse of German National Socialism. With the last witnesses of these times nearly gone, Susanne and Michael set out to search for traces, to come up with a way for asking questions about these times on an artistic and subjective level.

In Part I “Asservate” (“Exhibits” – A German Family Chronicle 1907 to 1997), Susanne explores her grandfather, a family taboo, as he was an official in the NS regime. The exhibit explores 3 generations of German men, her grandfather, her father – a totally apolitical individual, and her brother, all of whom lived in 3 different social orders: the Third Reich, the former communist East Germany, and today’s reunified Germany. While working on this project, she realized that this part of history, which was presented in high school as if it was as far removed as the Middle Ages, was much closer and still touched the present.

In Part II “Bueno! Alemanes en Argentina 2000” Susanne and Michael travelled to Argentina to explore the world of German immigrants who came to Argentina before, during and after WWII. In total they spent almost a year connecting with German immigrants in Buenos Aires. These German immigrants encompass a variety of different groups, including Jewish refugees, non-denominational leftists, economic adventurers and outright National Socialists. They are truly a motley collection of victims and perpetrators who have shock-frozen an image of Germany as it was at the time when they left.

Part III “Sologubovka – Russia” is anchored around the consecration of Europe’s largest war cemetery in Sologubovka, a small village near St. Petersburg. The five-hectare burial site was chosen by the German War Graves Association, which scouted various cemeteries with the unmarked graves of German soldiers in Russia before deciding on this location. The remains of German soldiers from smaller burial sites in the region were also collected and buried at Sologubovka., which is now the resting place of 60,000 German soldiers, around half of whom have been identified. It is estimated that up to 80,000 will be buried here when the cemetery is completed, making it the largest war cemetery in Russia. This lavish cemetery stands in stark contrast to the one single symbolic grave commemorating hundreds of thousands of Soviet victims that died during Nazi Germany’s 900 day siege of Leningrad (the Leningrad Blockade). Incidentally, Susanne Schleyer’s grandfather fell in 1941 and was reburied in the Sologubovka Cemetery, closing the loop of the Trilogy..

For all these projects, Susanne and her partner did years of research, studying historical and sociological texts in addition to spending substantial amounts of time on location to produce photos, interviews and sound recordings. These 3 components of Trilogy were produced between 1994 and 2004 and the exhibitions have been shown in various cities in Germany, including Berlin, the Netherlands, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Buenos Aires.

In my upcoming interview Susanne will talk to us about what motivated her to do this enormous Trilogy project, and she will tell us of her fascinating experiences along the way, confronting herself with her own family’s history, meeting German and Jewish immigrants in Argentina, and she will share her experiences in Saint Petersburg.

Susanne’s work is of particular interest to me personally, since my father was a Nazi as well who was drafted in 1941 at 17 years of age to fight in the Second World War. As was the case with Susanne’s grandfather, my father is a great enigma for me. I was never close to my father and left my home country of Austria at the young age of 20. It was only in the last year of his life that I had a real conversation with him, with him opening up just a little bit.

My father has been dead now for more than 10 years, and to this day I have never been able to find out what his personal involvement was during the WWII years. The one thing I can say is that my attitude today in terms of being a fervent supporter of intercultural openness and racial, ethnic and religious tolerance was shaped to a great degree as a response to World War II history that touched me personally in the form of my father.

The Second World War still has weighs on many people, 60 years after it came to an end. And it weighs on the descendants of the perpetrators as well as on the descendants of its victims, albeit in different ways. The concept of “collective guilt” in subsequent post-war generations is not fictitious.

My father and his role during this time have remained a mystery to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have linked up with Susanne Schleyer, a woman who has taken the initiative to explore her own family’s history in the context of World War II.

Eyeglasses Or Contact Lenses

Many means have been used over time to correct vision. The monocle and eyeglass on a stick came before prescription eyeglasses that had first had limited styles. As technology improved, lenses for glasses were getting smaller.

A lot of people were looking for eyeglasses to wear that they didn’t have to worry about being lost or getting broken. Contact lenses were great but expensive when they came along. You would have to get new lenses if you lost them or dropped them.

Someone I knew lost a contact lens and developed an eye infection. The doctor found on examination that the lens had slipped out of place. Rigid contact lenses took some getting used to. People wanted softer lenses that were flexible, and easy to put in.

People wanted lenses they could wear all the time because the softer lenses had to be removed and cleaned every night. As more people were able to afford contacts because of the lower prices they got sick and tired of cleaning them and the expense of all the cleaning solutions needed.

It would be wonderful if contact lenses could be disposed of at night and people could get rid of the cleaning solutions. Disposable lenses came out in 1987 and were designed to be worn for a certain period of time before you needed to dispose of them.

There are terms and explanations that will help you understand disposable contact lenses. Contact lenses that can be worn for up to two weeks, discarded and replaced are called disposable lenses. Frequent Replacement lenses are replaced anytime from one to three months.

Every six months traditional/reusable lenses are replaced if not before. You can wear Extended Wear lenses for up to two weeks even while you sleep. The need for cleaning solutions is eliminated with daily disposables because they are removed and discarded every night.

Together with your doctor the right replacement schedule for you will be decided on. How you wear your contacts will help determine how often your will need to remove, replace, and/or discard them. Day and night Contact Lenses – You wear these lenses day and night for up to 30 days.

After they are removed you get rid of them. The best idea in my opinion is the use of Day and Night Contact Lenses if you can tolerate them. Think about what you can do with the extra time you will have since you won’t be cleaning your lenses every night.

You eyes will be healthier the more often you replace your lenses. Your eyes could be come very uncomfortable and you could become prone to eye infections because over time lipids, proteins, and calcium could build up on them.

Some reasons to wear disposable lenses are for theatrical purposes and color changer lenses are often used. Among the wide variety of contact lenses available are animal eye lenses and those with company logos. What are the benefits, if there are any of disposable contact lenses?

Lenses are sterile and there is a lower risk of infections. There is little time for calcium, proteins, and lipids to build up on them. You will have clearer vision with them. They are not to be used with any cleaning solutions.

Storing cleaning solutions and having them is no longer necessary. The ideal lens for people with allergies is the daily disposable lenses especially during allergy seasons. If you only wear contacts a few times a week, these are great. If you wear contacts only a few times during the week, these are cheaper.

If your lose them or you rip your lenses simply throw them out and open a new package. There are greater benefits to disposable contacts than there are to eyeglasses. Many carry glasses just in case something happens to their contacts. Discuss the use of any contact lenses including disposables with your eye care professional.

He should perform a thorough examination of your eyes as well. You can get a free trial period of wear for up to a week from some manufacturers, if you do the research. You can get disposable contact lenses from online and from traditional eye care/wear places.

You need a prescription for contact lenses no matter where you get them. You should know that not everyone can wear contacts, only you and your doctor can make that decision. Make sure you will be able to afford them.

Contact manufacturers for special offers and/or free trial periods. Check out what lenses are available for your personal prescription. You need to do what is best for you.

Prepping For Business Partnerships

Successful business development executives increasingly are doing battle in the arena of strategic alliances and marketing partnerships. Nowadays getting the jump on your competition is not half as important as mapping out and deploying a targeted and unique value proposition with particular appeal to potentially compatible allies.

Successful business development executives increasingly are doing battle in the arena of strategic alliances and marketing partnerships. Nowadays getting the jump on your competition is not half as important as mapping out and deploying a targeted and unique value proposition with particular appeal to potentially compatible allies.

Take the old aphorism: “The early bird catches the worm?” It just doesn’t apply anymore. Even in the wild, naturists have discovered that ‘early on the job’ does not necessarily equate with success.

Consider this analogy:

Worms are slow, but they are expert at hiding. To catch one, birds must do more than just show up early. In the highly competitive world of birds, all the birds are up early. So, in practice, what distinguishes the successful bird from the hungry one is observation and preparation. Smart birds have figured out that worms are most vulnerable when they are in the act of eating.

The clever ones take care to study when, where, and what worms eat. The successful bird takes that data into account when making preparation! For example, one rather successful bird has learned that a certain type of worm finds a particular kind of leaf to be especially appealing. The wise bird has been observed using its beak to place the targeted worm’s preferred leaves in the worm’s vicinity.

The analogy of the clever bird applies not only in nature, but suggests a powerful strategic option available to you in business.

Knowing your target partner’s needs and decision structure gives you the edge over all other early birds. Whether you’re a CEO or a field executive with front line responsibility, you know that your prospects are capable of sophisticated camouflage. They are expert at hiding behind gatekeepers, red tape, misdirection, and layers of bureaucracy. So be it! Getting in front of potential partners takes more than showing up early. Executives responsible for cultivating business relationships must be able to increase their penetration effectiveness. They do so by providing prospects with “food” — in this case, a compelling level of data, analysis and capabilities presented in an extraordinary manner. The results of such highly creative, custom prepared initiatives are dramatic.

Your commitment to a content-based partnership initiative is a win-win strategy:

* Partnership options, sales opportunities and receptivity improve dramatically when prospects are prepped via well-designed initiative tools front-loaded with offers of relevant information.

* Superbly orchestrated interface meetings, powerful creative presentations and mouth-watering proposals (worthy of the partnership’s revenue potential) help prospective partners cut back on resistance and institutional firewalls.

* Most partnership executives are more inclined to bite into knowledge that treats them like a stakeholder. This approach improves their ability to evaluate, decide and be open to profiting from a prospective alliance.

Empowering your target with information is significantly more likely to get the deal done at the end of the day.

Increasingly, the Web is proving to be an ideal content delivery venue for initiative purposes. Content configured, digitally distributed partner initiatives are growing, but when it comes to relationship building face-to-face meetings are still essential.

Increased partnering productivity has a significant bearing on:
– finding good opportunities
– executive dialogue
– positive brand perceptions
– reducing the cost of partnership development
– buy-in from gatekeepers and influencers
– negotiating agreements.

It is never too early to start developing and implementing a targeted and effective Strategic Partnership Plan & Program. Feel free to contact the clever birds at Partner | M for assistance in this matter.

Plastic Surgery

We all have the initial notion that plastic surgery is only for vanity due to the media hype created by celebrities undergoing such operations to change the size of their breasts, the shape of their nose, or other body parts in order to improve their looks.
However, people who have birth defects such as cleft palates or ear deformities as well as those who get involve in accidents and have broken nose, and jaws may also benefit from plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery is a medical procedure to change a person’s appearance and ability to function. Plastic surgeons strive to improve a patients’ appearance and self-image through both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. It is derived from the Greek word plastikos, which means to form or mold.
Reconstructive surgery is a procedure that corrects defects on the face or body which includes physical birth defects like cleft lips and palates and ear deformities, traumatic injuries like those from dog bites or burns, the aftermath of an accident or the side effects from disease treatments like rebuilding a woman’s breast after surgery for breast cancer.
Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is another procedure that alters a part of the body based on the patient’s desire and satisfaction. Some cosmetic surgery may not require surgical techniques such as cutting and stitching. Non-surgical methods like special lasers are being used nowadays for minor procedures like unwanted hair removal, acne treatments and other age-reduction procedures.
Common cosmetic procedures include making the breasts larger (augmentation mammoplasty) or smaller (reduction mammoplasty), reshaping the nose (rhinoplasty), and removing pockets of fat from specific spots on the body (liposuction).
Many plastic surgery procedures involve the use of anesthesia because the process involves a deliberate wounding of the body. This is why most doctors who perform these procedures want to know that their patients are capable of understanding and handling the stress of surgery. For those who are undergoing major reconstruction such as sex change, the patient’s emotional and psychological conditions are factors to be taken into consideration. The patient needs a lot of counseling regarding the pros and cons of the surgery.
People with physical deformities resort to plastic surgery to correct the defect or to alter parts of their bodies that makes them feel uncomfortable. Young men with a condition called gynecomastia or excess breast tissue that doesn’t go away with time or weight loss may consider reduction surgery. People with birthmarks may turn to laser treatment in order to lessen or conceal its appearance.
Other people decide they want a cosmetic change because they’re not happy about the way they look. It may sound vanity but everyone has the right to feel good about oneself. For those who have ears that stick out of their heads, they can go for otoplasty procedure to pin back their ears. Most teens usually avail of otoplasty as well as dermabrasion, a procedure that can help smooth or camouflage severe acne scars.
The most common procedures teens choose include nose reshaping, ear surgery, acne and acne scar treatment, and breast enlargement or reduction.
Cosmetic surgery is unlikely to change one’s life. Most plastic surgeons spend a lot of time interviewing young people who are considering plastic surgery to decide if they are good candidates for the surgery. Doctors want to know that patients are emotionally mature enough to go through surgery and that they are doing it for the right reasons.
There are surgeons who refuse to perform certain procedures like rhinoplasty on a teen until they are sure that person is old enough and has finished growing. For rhinoplasty, that means about 15 or 16 for girls and about a year older for guys.
Young women who are thinking of having breasts augmentation for cosmetic reasons usually must be at least 18 because saline implants are only approved for women 18 years old and above. However, there are some cases when there’s a tremendous size difference between the breasts or one breast has failed to grow at all, then a plastic surgeon may get involved earlier.
Generally, people are self-conscious about their bodies. Almost everyone wishes there were a thing or two that could be changed. But self-consciousness goes away with time. You might consider going to the gym to get in shape through appropriate weight control and exercise which can do great things for a person’s image without resorting to surgery. Liposuction may seem like quick and easy fixes compared with sticking to a diet. But there is risk involve in surgery than dieting, exercise or weight loss pills. People reserve surgery for extreme cases when all other options have failed.
Young people should think a lot of times and seek counseling before undergoing plastic surgery. A teen’s body continues to change through the years. Body parts that might appear too large or too small now can become more proportionate over time. Sometimes, for example, what seems like a big nose looks more the right size as the rest of the person’s face catches up during growth.
Emotions have a really big effect on how people think about their looks. People who are going through depression, extremely self-critical, or have a distorted view of what they really look like sometimes think that changing their looks will solve their problems. Unfortunately, it’s not going to work that way. They need to resolve whatever emotional issues they have with the help of a trained therapist first. In fact, many doctors won’t perform plastic surgery on people who are depressed or have other mental health disorders.

Pink Eye Secrets Revealed

You’re probably familiar with a little disease called pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis. If you haven’t experienced this nasty little inconvenience first-hand, you may have a child or know someone who’s child has had it. And although it is most commonly known to occur in children, it does affect people of all ages.

Pink eye can be very contagious, although not in all circumstances. The contagious type is brought on by a virus or bacteria. The non-contagious type is brought on mostly by allergies. You will know if you have pink eye because the whites of your eyes become red, hence the pink, swollen and generally irritated. The lids and area around the eye can also become red and the infected eye will sometimes frequently tear and / or produce a funny-colored discharge. Sometimes it even causes the eyes to become sensitive to light. If not properly taken care of, pink eye can become quite a serious situation, and if it seems to be getting worse, you should definitely see a doctor.

Pink Eye starts in one eye and very often spreads to the other, usually due to touching your eyes and transferring it from one to the other. Be sure to wash your hands every time you touch your eyes so as not to spread the disease. Those with pink eye should also not wear contact lenses or any eye makeup as these things will further irritate the ailment. If you have used eye makeup while experiencing this discomfort, throw it away and also wash any pillow cases or towels that have made contact with the infected eyes.

If the pink eye is not the contagious kind, and if the infection has not yet become serious, there are certain remedies you can try before consulting a doctor. Over-the-counter eye drops or eye washes sometimes alleviate and reduce the symptoms. You can also try a warm compress to help relieve the discomfort and remove any crust that has formed around the eye. You might want to also ask your pharmacist if they can offer any suggestions for over-the-counter medications.

If pain is occurring in the infected eye, or if it feels like there is a foreign object in it, or any discharge is present for more than 24 hours, this is most likely the contagious version of pink eye. You should consult a physician because antibiotics for eyes are only available through a prescription. If your doctor does prescribe any ointment or drops, take care not to touch the applicator tip to the infected eye as you could possibly spread the pink eye.

Photorefractive Keratectomy Laser Eye Surgery

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a laser eye surgery procedure that is carried out with the key intent to correct a patient’s vision. PRK permanently changes the shape of the frontal corneal tissue using an excimer laser, which is a high-precision ultraviolet chemical laser. The outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed, and then a small amount of the corneal tissue is burnt off using the laser. Such an ablation renders the desired shape to the cornea and allows for optimal refraction.

PRK is a technologically advanced surgical procedure. For instance, a computer system tracks the eye position around 4,000 times per second, redirecting laser pulses for precise ablation. As mentioned above, the epithelium is removed prior to ablation. This does not hamper the patient’s vision, since the epithelium is a soft and regenerating layer, which is capable of completely replacing itself within a matter of days. However, the deeper layers, once burnt off, will remain that way because they possess limited regenerative capability. This theory is the cornerstone of the Photorefractive keratectomy surgical procedure.

PRK differs from LASIK in a way that the epithelium is removed in PRK and allowed to regenerate. On the other hand, LASIK does not involve epithelium removal. Instead it consists of cutting a flap in the cornea in order to make the desired incisions. Compared to LASIK, a patient who has undergone PRK experiences more pain and recovery is slow. However, both procedures are similar in the respect that they make use of a laser.

Photorefractive keratectomy is a viable procedure, but it does have possible complications. Apart from slow recovery and pain, the patient may experience glares and halos. As in any refractive surgery, there is a possibility of over- or under-correction. Eye surgeons typically perform PRK on one eye at a time, in order to gauge the results of the procedure and ensure its efficacy.

In a majority of cases, PRK has proven to be a safe and efficacious procedure to correct myopia. However, since the procedure is irreversible, it is recommended that the patient consults an eye doctor instead of jumping on a conclusion.

Pet Health Insurance

Owners who are considering purchasing pet health insurance for their dogs should make sure that the eye health of their dogs covered by the insurance policy. Because many insurance companies will not insure the eyes of a dog whose breed is habitually diagnosed with chronic eye problems may want to consider purchasing their puppy from a CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation). Breeders who are recognized by the CERF have been publicly acknowledged as breeding puppies without known health problems. In some cases insurance companies might also require that the owners have genetic screening done on the puppies before they can be insured.

Glaucoma is a common eye condition that begins with very subtle symptoms such as dilated pupils that don’t respond well to light, and eye that appears to be red, poor vision, and corneas are often cloudy. One California-based veterinarian claims that because the initial symptoms of Glaucoma can be very subtle many California pet owners to not immediately bring their dogs and for an examination. If Glaucoma is not immediately seen by a veterinarian within 24 to 48 hours the increased pressure in the eyeball can lead to permit it cases of blindness. In severe cases of untreated Glaucoma veterinarians have been forced to remove the pet’s eye.

Any dog who has the developed an irritation in their eye that causes them to square to produce extra tears is called a “squinting dog”. Most cases of squinting is caused from a minor irritation such as an in turned eyelash or minor scratch to the cornea. However some cases of squinting dog has led to the early diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and Blastomyosis.

The Dermoidis is a benign corneal neoplasam. It is sometimes referred to as the third eyelid. Hair growing from the Dermoidis can irritate the dog’s eye which can cause discharge and occasionally cause an ulcer to appear on the eye.

Once you have seen a person or animal with cataracts you will always be able to diagnose them. The official definition of a cataract is opacity of the lens. When you look into an eye that has a cataract it looks as if a darkly tinted contact lens has been placed over the lens. If the cataracts become too thick the pet will go blind.

Shar Peis. Cocker Spaniels, Labradors, and Rottweilers are susceptible to eye condition called Entropion. Entropio, happens when an eyelid fold inward toward the eye and causes the eyelashes to brush against the cornea. The irritation of the eyelashes rubbing the cornea generally gives the eye a squinty drippy appearance. Bulldogs, Poodles, and Cocker Spaniels are often diagnosed with a condition called Cherry eye.

Dry eyes is the term used to describe the eyes of a dog that isn’t producing enough tears. Lhasa Apso, Pugs, and Shih Tzus are breeds that are particularly susceptible to dry eyes. Dog owners should bring their dogs to the veterinarian as soon as they notice any of the following conditions; squinting, tearing, pawing at the eye, cloudiness, bloody eyes, a blind eye (this can happen very abruptly), constantly dilated pupils, and swollen eyelids. Dog owners need to understand that early diagnosis is often the key to preventing further eye issues.

Parkbridge Capital

A slumping housing market, high energy costs, and turbulent financial markets are causing many baby boomers into more prudent choices for their retirement. Today’s retirees consider a longer, more active lifestyle than previous generations, and now, with homes adjusting downward in value, many will have fewer financial resources than previously perceived. There is an answer for many of the upcoming wave of retirees: the new generation of manufactured homes, where quality, safety, comfort, aesthetics and value exist. Many people are turning to the up-scale manufactured home communities. “The benefits are not solely in the home itself. The community offers great benefits and value,” states Lee Meekcoms, President of Parkbridge Capital Group, Inc. (www.parkbridgecapital.com), a privately held real estate investment, acquisition, and brokerage firm. With more than twenty-five years in real estate sales, acquisition, and development and a baby boomer himself, he understands this market well. “The boomers seek a lifestyle that is secure, fulfills needs, and provides enjoyable activities with friends in the retirement years,” says Meekcoms.

Today, many manufactured home communities feature resort-living, sporting everything from gated entrances, to swimming pools, spas, recreational centers, clubhouses, community events, wireless internet, cable TV, activity coordinators, BBQ and dining areas, fitness centers, seasonal events and more. “The people that live in these communities are happy, creative and really enjoy the place and all that it offers,” says Meekcoms, “staying at home is not really an interesting option”.

These 77 million baby boomers, or 35 percent of all U.S. adults, have long known how to flex their real estate muscle. As the top breadwinners in the American economy, baby boomers have a strong relationship to their home and consider housing and real estate to be their best financial investment. Baby boomers also account for roughly 50% of all vacation homes according to the National Association of Realtors.

Trends in both manufactured home communities and RV resorts (which can have the same set of amenities as the manufactured home communities, and often, more amenities) are strong indicators that these properties are a wise investment; the reason why Parkbridge Capital has focused on this market. “We’re confident that buying, upgrading, enhancing operations, and expanding existing properties will result in very good investor returns, while providing Americans with an affordable, or even a quite luxurious way to achieve the lifestyle that they desire.”

One might expect that skyrocketing gas prices would discourage RV traveling or seasonal living elsewhere. However, Parkbridge Capital has found the opposite to be true. “Research indicates that those who own RVs overwhelmingly feel that RV vacations are much less expensive than other travel options,” he says. “Observers of this phenomena note that RV owners are spending less time on the road and more time at their destinations. We’re seeing a lot of growth in the “park-model” (resort cottage) sector of the RV market. The retiree simply drives their smaller RV, their car, or arrives by air travel, and remains for the season at the resort.” Meekcoms expects that this trend will continue for many years.

Because of economic fact, many baby boomers want to enjoy a flexible lifestyle at a cost that isn’t extravagant,” he says. “The properties that we acquire with our partners and clients are a perfect fit for mobile, cost-conscious boomers who want the best of all worlds.”

Parkbridge Capital Group has been involved with the purchase, sale or management of more than 100 properties worth in excess of one billion dollars in current value. More information can be found online at http://www.parkbridgecapital.com.

Panda Jewelry

Thinking of an adorable motif to wear or give away to friends, but tired of cliches? Maybe you’ve bought too many ballerina figurines or puppy plushies. It’s time to experiment with a different theme. The idea of panda jewelry is a unusual and is associated with environmental and ecological issues.

If you want to distinguish yourself from the boring routine of giving away cute cuddly teddy bears or bear-motifed cards for Christmas or a birthday, opt for something different by considering panda jewelry. After all, bears are always cute — but pandas are exotic BESIDES being cute.

Pandas in accessories may be somewhat unconventional, but the unconventionality itself is sure to make this theme set a smash hit. The white-and-black theme that comes naturally to pandas is useful for every design. We all know how chic chiaroscuro (an italian term for an artistic rendering using only black and white) is “in” at any fashion era!

Besides, it’s really wrong to say that pandas aren’t “in” at all! Japan’s Tare-panda has achieved much mileage among young people since its creation in 1995. In 1999, Japan’s Seda magazine elected Tare-panda as the most popular toy of the year. The Tare-panda mascot, bug-eyed and cute, has found its way to various forms of merchandise — on bracelets and bags, t-shirts and notebooks, and even to cell phone charms!

Mobile phone charms are actually just among of the many examples of accessories where the panda jewelry motif would definitely “click.” Kids nowadays may be modern, but modern accessories need not adopt to a futuristic theme, or a fantastic one…in fact, panda jewelry may actually be useful in making young people more aware of the plight of the panda — specifically the Giant Panda, which is one of the more endangered species in the world today.

Cute and cuddly as they are, pandas are nonetheless beleaguered by very real issues. Encouraging more young people into wearing panda jewelry instead of regular bear jewelry may just help them become more involved in this cause.

Open Your Eyes To Healthy Vision

Most people consider vision their most valued sense yet many of us take our eyesight for granted and hardly think twice about what it would be like to lose our vision. Every day I sit with patients whose vision is threatened by age-related macular degeneration, a devastating condition that is also called AMD. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in Americans over 60, and affects more than 15 million people in the U.S. More than 1.6 million people have advanced AMD, which can jeopardize the ability to read, drive, watch TV and even recognize family and friends’ faces. But thanks to recent medical advancements, patients now have better chances at preserving vision and slowing vision loss than ever before.

Dry and Wet AMD

There are two forms of AMD, dry and wet. Dry AMD is more common, accounting for 90 percent of AMD cases, but it accounts for only 10 percent of the severe vision loss caused by AMD. Dry AMD is characterized by the development of yellow-white deposits underneath your retina, known as drusen. In the early stages of AMD, you may see a blurred spot in the center of your vision. Over time, dry AMD may develop into wet AMD, the more serious form of the disease. In wet AMD, abnormal blood vessels that are weak start to grow and often leak blood and fluid in the back of the eye, which is why the disease is called wet. The blood and fluid can cause the macula (the central part of the retina, responsible for central vision) to become distorted and scarred, which harms and blurs central vision. Wet AMD can develop rapidly, often leading to severe vision loss in the affected eye within months.

Most cases of wet AMD begin as dry AMD, so it’s important to know if you are at risk for wet AMD so you can monitor your vision and catch wet AMD early. Unfortunately, patients often seek care for wet AMD too late. Recent studies suggest that the earlier wet AMD is caught and treated, the better vision outcomes may be.

Help Protect Your Eyesight

Because early treatment for wet AMD may garner the best results, it’s important to monitor for changes in vision and if you’re over the age of 60, you should schedule regular eye exams with your eye doctor. If you’re diagnosed with dry AMD and are told that you are at risk for developing the wet form, your doctor may give you a simple self-monitoring tool called an Amsler grid, which is a convenient way to help monitor your vision at home. The Amsler grid only takes about two minutes to test both eyes separately (with reading glasses if you have them) and should be used daily. Post the grid at eye level either on your refrigerator door or bathroom mirror-or somewhere easy to remember, so it becomes part of your daily routine. Catching wet AMD early is critical, so if you notice any changes in your vision, such as blurriness or wavy lines on the Amsler grid, you should immediately make an appointment with your eye doctor.

Treating Wet AMD

Recently, wet AMD patients have benefited from major scientific advancements in treatment. Just a few years ago, laser therapies were the only available treatments and they were only appropriate for a small amount of people with the condition.

Today, a drug called Macugen (pegaptanib sodium injection) is available and was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to treat all types of wet AMD and is proven to preserve vision over the long term by slowing vision loss.

The Amsler grid is a simple self-monitoring grid that people at risk for wet AMD can use every day at home. More information about AMD and free Amsler grids are available by visiting www.my eyehealth.org or calling (866) 702-EYES (3937).

MACUGEN is indicated for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Important safety information

MACUGEN is contraindicated in patients with ocular or periocular infections or with known hypersensitivity to pegaptanib sodium or any other excipient in this product.

Safety or efficacy of MACUGEN beyond 2 years has not been demonstrated.

Intravitreal injections including those with MACUGEN have been associated with endophthalmitis. Proper aseptic injection technique-which includes use of sterile gloves, a sterile drape, and a sterile eyelid speculum (or equivalent)-should always be utilized when administering MACUGEN. In addition, patients should be monitored during the week following the injection to permit early treatment, should an infection occur.

Increases in intraocular pressure (IOP) have been seen within 30 minutes of injection with MACUGEN. Therefore, IOP as well as the perfusion of the optic nerve head should be monitored and managed appropriately.

Serious adverse events related to the injection procedure occurring in <1% of intravitreal injections included endophthalmitis, retinal detachment, and iatrogenic traumatic cataract.

Most frequently reported adverse events in patients treated for up to 2 years were anterior chamber inflammation, blurred vision, cataract, conjunctival hemorrhage, corneal edema, eye discharge, eye irritation, eye pain, hypertension, increased IOP, ocular discomfort, punctate keratitis, reduced visual acuity, visual disturbance, vitreous floaters, and vitreous opacities. These events occurred in approximately 10% to 40% of patients.

Rare cases of anaphylaxis/anaphylactoid reactions, including angioedema, have been reported in postmarketing experience following the intravitreal administration procedure.

Night Vision Problems

According to research studies conducted in recent years, several patients who underwent LASIK reported problems seeing at night. The induced night vision defects included halos, starbursts and glare around brightly lit objects at night. These night vision problems signify deterioration in quality rather than quantity of vision. Though these night vision problems are typically transient and wear off in a few days, in some patients, the symptoms might persist long after the eye heals.

LASIK is a refractive surgery technique that involves reshaping of the cornea via precise ablation. Night vision problems are known to be caused by the irregularity between the untouched part of the cornea and the reshaped part. It is a known fact that the pupil dilates in darkness and contracts when faced with bright light. However, it is impractical to perform LASIK such that it covers the expansion of the pupil at full dilation at night.

Daytime post-LASIK vision is optimal, since the pupil is smaller than the LASIK flap. But at night, the pupil may expand such that light passes through the edge of the LASIK flap into the pupil. This is what gives birth to night vision anomalies.

Studies have also shown that the possibility of night vision problems increases in patients who have undergone some sort of enhancement LASIK surgery. It might be the case that the desired refraction is not accomplished in the foremost surgery, and hence, patients typically require enhancement surgeries. These patients are generally less happy with the outcome than those patients who have had LASIK surgery only once in life. Moreover, patients who have flatter corneas at the outset are more likely to suffer from starbursts and other night vision problems after surgery.

LASIK technology has advanced over time and the surgeons have gained loads of experience in the pertinent field. As a result, the number of patients reporting night vision problems has dropped significantly. Expert surgeons carry out a comprehensive preoperative examination to determine if the patient has large sized pupils. They make use of advanced contemporary equipment to accomplish the same, and therefore, rule out the possibility of long-term night vision defects.

Finding a LASIK surgery that you are confident about will be able to give you more information about night vision problems.

NFL Football Betting For Newbies

NFL football betting is by far the most popular area of the gaming industry. The purpose of this article is to familiarize the new bettor with the different aspects of NFL football betting. With that in mind, we’ll stick with the basic elements you’ll need to know.

Normally, when betting against a point spread, you bet $110 to win $100. This is shown as – 110. The extra $10 is known as the “vig” or the “juice”. There are sports books out there that offer specials, such as “reduced juice” (- 105, for example). – 105 would mean that you’d be betting only $105 to win $100.

NFL football betting involves a betting line, also known as a point spread. For example, let’s say Miami is playing against Buffalo. Miami is listed as – 7, which means Miami is the favorite. Buffalo would then be listed as + 7, which makes them the underdog. If you place a bet on Miami at – 7, then Miami must win the game by more than seven points in order for you to win your bet. If you place a bet on Buffalo at + 7, then Buffalo must either win the game or lose by less than seven points in order for you to win your bet. If Miami wins by exactly seven points, then the game is a “push” or “no action” and everyone who wagered on one of the teams gets back their original wager amount.

You can certainly see where there would be much more opportunity to win by betting on Buffalo, since they don’t even have to win the game in order for you to win your wager. If you bet on Miami, on the other hand, they could win the game and you could still lose your wager if they do not win by more than seven. This is why many NFL football betting experts wager on nothing but underdogs.

You may also see a Total listed for the game. For this example, let’s say there is a Total listed at 43. The total is the number of combined points scored by both teams in the game. If you think the two teams will combine to score more than the posted total of 43, then you would wager “Over the Total”. If you think the two teams will combine to score less than the posted total of 43, then you would wager “Under the Total”. If the total score ends up being exactly 43, then the total is a “push” or “no action” and everyone who wagered on the total gets back their original wager amount.

For this example, let’s say Miami won the game, 27 – 17. If you placed a bet on Miami at – 7, you’d subtract seven points from Miami’s score, making it Miami 20, Buffalo 17. If you placed a bet on Buffalo at + 7, you’d add seven points to Buffalo’s score, making it Miami 27, Buffalo 24. Either way, anyone who wagered on Miami won and anyone who wagered on Buffalo lost.

The actual final score of the game was Miami 27, Buffalo 17. That’s a total of 44 points. The posted total line was 43. So, bettors who wagered on “Over the Total” won their bets since 44 is over, or higher than, 43. Bettors who wagered “Under the Total” lost their wagers.

Those are the basics. I hope the examples above helped those of you who are new to the world of NFL football betting. You’re now ready to begin your own NFL football betting. Good luck.

Almost Invisible to the Naked Eye

Watch this recent ABC News clip and see the results for yourself! An ndependent news organization persuaded two volunteers to try the product and tell them what they thought about it!

What’s going on here?

Is this some kind of magic? No, -it’s not magic. It’s science which seems like magic.

The main ingredient in Deception is made from something called “emu oil”. I’ll tell you about emu oil in a moment… but first… let me tell you what creates the “magic” effect.

This is the best triple-refined emu oil in the world. And, an extra ingredient is added to it while it is being made into a cream. This extra ingredient is a suspension of superfine silicon dioxide nanoprisms which has been “fractionated” instead of powderized. That means instead of turning into flakes when it is processed… it turns into…

Billions of Microscopic Three-Dimensional Nanoprisms! So what?

Here’s “so what.” Almost nobody knows this… but… the human eye cannot see a wrinkle. What the eye sees is actually the shadow made by the wrinkle. And, since all those billions of microscopic nanoprisms refract light, when you use Deception…

There are No Shadows to See!

This effect will last until you wash your face and the invisible silicon dioxide is removed. And get this: Remember how I told you the main ingredient in this cosmetic cream is made from emu oil? Well, it turns out emu oil is probably the best cosmetic ingredient in the world. That’s because its molecules are much smaller than the molecules in human skin. Because of this, emu oil can…

Penetrate Down Through Seven Layers of Human Skin!

This makes it the best moisturizer in the world.

And here’s more good news! The reason you get wrinkles in the first place is, as you get older, you start losing the collagen in your skin. Can you guess what emu oil does?

MY EYES

It has come to my attention that wearing glasses stinks. My father wears glasses, and i dont know if it is that I didnt want to hear it, or I just plain ignored him, but apparently he has been complaining about glasses since I was young. Well pops, do something about it!

Actually I can’t be that rude, he has done something about it. He now wears contacts and loves every minute of it. He says it is WAY different than glasses. With glasses, apparently, you can see clear straight ahead, but it is blurry peripherally. The deal with contacts is, you don’t have any blurry vision at all, which I hear is nice.

Contacts, however, still leave you with a few jobs. These duties entail taking them in and out, replacing them if lost, and keeping them moist when they are not in. When dad wakes up in the morning he still has bad vision, because you can not wear contacts overnight. Well what else can he do?!

EYE SURGERY! True, it’s expensive, but after this it’s like you’ve never worn glasses before in your life. Your riding high on the “I can see clearly” cloud. Eye surgery is low risk, so dont be too afraid to try it out. That’s the next step for dad I think. In my opinion, your eyes are a pretty good investment.

Music to Your Eyes

Sonny and Cher, Fred and Ginger, chocolate and peanut butter…some things are just meant to go together. And diamonds and sapphires are no exception. With so many choices, a diamond and sapphire engagement and wedding ring set can go down in your personal history with as much romance and excitement as Antony and Cleopatra…with a much happier ending, of course!

No need for the blues, with sapphires you can branch out into a variety of melodies. While sapphires are usually associated with the deep blue only a sapphire can exude, sapphires cover a large portion of the rainbow from purples to reds to oranges and yellows. Imagine the glitz and glitter of a brilliant white diamond surrounded by a sparkling ruby sapphire…there’s something you’ll enjoy looking at for years to come! And if you love the idea of a colored diamond, such as a pink or yellow, you can find the perfect complimentary sapphire to create an elegant sunset on your finger.

On the bright side, if the cost of a colored diamond is too much to consider (at least for now–always keep your options open!), consider a colored sapphire instead. The main attraction could be the yellow or pink sapphire, supported by a brilliant chorus of smaller diamonds, and no one would know the difference unless you chose to reveal your brilliant secret!

Or consider this–if your heart’s desire is a pink or yellow diamond, but you’re not dating a movie star (for which you may want to thank your lucky stars), you can create the “look” without the price tag. Set a smaller yellow or pink diamond in the center and surround it with the same color of sapphires. This creates the stunning yellow or pink glow you’ve got your heart set on, but significantly lowers the cost. You can have that ‘two million’ look without emptying your bank account (or putting yourself in debt that will last as long as the marriage).

Sapphires are pretty study rocks, too–only second in hardness to diamonds, which means you can mix ‘em up as much as you want and be confident that your ring will last for years to come, just like your favorite classic tune that never goes out of style.

Need another reason to consider the diamond/sapphire duet? The rocks are gorgeous and can be put in any kind of setting you prefer and still look great. Whether you like to dance to the beat of your own drummer or prefer the classic sounds of Mozart, you can combine your diamond and sapphire choices in a way that will make your heart sing for years to come.

Mesothelioma Statistics

What are Mesothelioma Statistics?

Mesothelioma statistics are data about mesothelioma – a dangerous cancer that affects the lining of the lungs and the abdomen. In some cases, mesothelioma can affect the heart and reproductive organs too. It is a fatal disease with patients surviving for only one-two years after the diagnosis.

What have Mesothelioma Statistics Revealed?

Mesothelioma statistics have revealed that nearly seventy to eighty per cent of all cases of mesothelioma have been directly traced to prolonged exposure to asbestos. Asbestos was a frequently used material in construction, railroad, factory, shipyard and automobile industries. Mesothelioma statistics were able to highlight the link between asbestos and cancer nearly sixty years ago. However, unscrupulous industries have chosen to continue using asbestos for profit motives.

Mesothelioma statistics also portray mesothelioma to be a silent killer. This is because the disease lies dormant in the body for periods between ten to fifty years. It is usually diagnosed in patients when they are between fifty and seventy years of age. Normally the diagnosis of mesothelioma is only after the case has reached the last stage and there is very little hope for the survival of the patient.

Mesothelioma Statistics Related to Mesothelioma Treatment:

The sad reality is that mesothelioma has no cure. According to mesothelioma statistics, after diagnosis, the average survival rate is only 12-24 months. Even with early detection and treatment, the survival rate can be stretched out to five years. Mesothelioma treatments are very expensive and usually range – between four hundred thousand and eight hundred thousand dollars. This is the reason why most of the mesothelioma patients have to file lawsuits to recover medical and other costs related to this killer disease.

Is There Anything That Mesothelioma Statistics Is Not Able To Reveal?

Mesothelioma statistics reveal only the numbers of patients who have already been diagnosed with mesothelioma. This number is between two to three thousand new cases every year. However, mesothelioma statistics is not able to reveal or predict the numbers of people who continue to slowly develop the cancer inside them. There is no statistical data to provide the probable number of mesothelioma patients in the coming future.

How Can Mesothelioma Statistics Be Helpful?

Government regulations make mesothelioma patients eligible for compensation. Mesothelioma statistics can help in providing valuable information about the disease for compensation claims and lawsuits. Moreover, mesothelioma statistics can also help the mesothelioma victims and attorneys to gather valuable information for supporting their compensation claims.

Meaning of the Evil Eye

Why the Evil Eye bead is more than just a good luck charm:

The Evil Eye is more than just a superstitious myth, and evil eye beads are more than just good luck charms. They are a reminder that we are all one people.

How’s that?

Take an Orthodox from Greece, a Catholic from Mexico, a Jew from Israel, or a Muslim from Turkey, Iran, or anywhere in the Middle East. Different people, different religions, everybody always fighting all the time, etc, etc.

But what do they all have in common? They all believe in the Evil Eye, and they all wear these good luck charms to guard against it.

The Evil Eye is a reminder that underneath it all, we are all the same human beings, even if we think we’re different.

In our eyes, that’s what makes the evil eye REALLY cool!

Enough editorial, now for the straight story…

Throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East, many people believe envious gazes or high praise from others can bring you bad luck.

The people who praise you probably mean you no harm, but still, evil spirits can piggyback in on their words or looks, and put a bad luck curse on you.

The Nazar Boncuk charm (or Evil Eye Bead) is an “eye”, often set on a blue background. It stares back at the world to ward off the evil spirits and keep you safe from harm. It is one of the most common items of decoration in any Turkish home, in any car, or on any person. You can see the charm hanging above doorways, dangling from the wrists of young women, or even planted right into the cement outside modern office buildings. And always, always, you will see them pinned to the shirts of newborn babies.

What do the colors mean? In Turkey and surrounding countries, the most popular evil eye charm color is blue. Turkey is in a dry part of the world, where water is precious — with water things prosper and grow, and without it, things shrivel and die. The color blue reminds people of fresh, cool water.
In the Jewish faith, the color red is often associated with luck and good fortune, so red is also a popular color.

When the Evil Eye Bead appears in other colors besides blue or red, it is usually for fashion reasons — color coordination with one’s wardrobe. Beads in the alternative colors have every bit as much protective power as the traditional blue ones.

Evil eye beads go back thousands of years. The earliest written references to the evil eye occur on Sumerian clay tablets dating to the third millennium BC. Agate beads of exceptional quality, worn to protect the wearer from the influence of the evil eye, were also discovered in royal Sumerian graves at Ur.

In Turkey and Greece, throughout the republics of Central Asia, and all the way to the Turkic regions of western China — the effects of the “evil eye” are believed real, and genuinely feared.

Eyepiece Telescope Lens For Maximum Viewing

Most quality telescopes require the use of an eyepiece as part of the magnification power of the telescope. If you have a telescope with a single eyepiece, you will want to investigate using one or two different ones for different purposes. The eyepiece telescope has this advantage of those that do not have a changeable eyepiece.

The eyepiece plays a major role in the magnification power of an eyepiece telescope. In order to calculate what the magnification would be with a different eyepiece you would divide the focal length by the eyepiece focal length. Since the focal length of an eyepiece telescope will remain constant, by changing the eyepiece you can change the power.

Not everyone changes an eyepiece to increase the magnification, especially if wanting to view areas that are closer or they want a wider field of view. One reason to reduce the magnification may be to create a finder lens for your telescope to be able to find an object. With a strong eyepiece telescope, finding the moon through the normal magnification could be like trying to find it while looking through a straw.

Effective Fields Of View Also Changes

The true field of view, that is what you can see as an undistorted image can also be adjusted by changing the eyepiece on an eyepiece telescope. The field stop on an eyepiece is the rotating ring that limits the field size. To find the true field of view, divide the field stop diameter by the telescope’s focal length and then multiply by 57.3.

In order to obtain lower power viewing of large objects your eyepiece should deliver the widest possible field of view. A one and a quarter inch eyepiece would have a field stop of 27mm maximum. The maximum field stop on a two-inch eyepiece is about 46 mm.

A general rule of thumb with an eyepiece telescope is that choosing an eyepiece with shorter focal lengths and larger apparent field of view, bringing brighter, clearer images of objects including fainter stars.

Two things to consider when looking at news eyepieces could be a Barlow lens, which simply is a magnifier, which adds magnification power to the eyepiece telescope, and what is called eye relief.

Eye relief is the space between the lens and your eye and should have enough room for you to be able to wear your glasses, if needed, as well as to keep your eyelashes from brushing against the lens.
